Reviews Summary

Eataly Milano Smeraldo offers a vibrant Italian food market experience with a well-regarded restaurant on the top floor, particularly praised for its pizzas. While many appreciate the vast selection of high-quality products and the unique shopping-dining concept, some reviews point to inconsistencies in service and food quality, with occasional complaints about the pizza and overall dining experience.

"A fantastic one stop place to go for Italian grocery shopping. Wide selection of fresh produce, meats, seafood, cheese, pasta, wines. The restaurant also serves good pasta and pizzas. Customers can have the choice of buying fresh seafood from the supermarket and have the restaurant cook. Also a good place for coffee, sandwiches, gelatos. Limited underground parking and gets really busy in the evenings."

Danny Lien

"A great store offering a wide selection of Italian products — you can find almost everything you need, and the frequent discounts and promotions make shopping even more enjoyable. There's an especially impressive variety of cheeses, cured meats, and pasta to suit all tastes.

Be sure to check out the restaurant on the third floor. It's a pleasant spot to relax before or after grocery shopping, or simply to enjoy a nice dinner. They do a good job with classic dishes, and the pizza is particularly delicious.

The only downside is the limited wine selection — not everything listed on the menu is actually available. Nevertheless, I highly recommend visiting both the store and the restaurant."

Vladimir Grebnev

"What a great find in Milan! Eataly is a beautiful 4-floor food paradise, offering a fantastic variety of high-quality Italian food and drink. Everything—from the displays to the fresh products—looks and feels premium.

We especially loved the top-floor restaurant, which had a great atmosphere. We ordered a few rice balls and eggplant parmigiana, and both were absolutely flavorful and perfectly prepared. For dessert, we had the pistachio gelato—super creamy and rich.!

Eataly is not just a store, it’s a full experience. Whether you’re shopping, dining, or just browsing, it’s a must-visit for any food lover in Milan. Highly recommend!"

In Landlocked Milan, Try the Fish

Since 2014, the Michelin-starred fish restaurant, whose name translates to “anchovy,” has made its home on a second-floor space inside Eataly’s teeming emporium of Italian delicacies. Inside the restaurant, serenity reigns, with sloping glass walls that look down on a piazza below inducing the woozy, soothing impression of being aboard a boat in central Milan.

Peck (Via Spadari 9; tel. 02/802-3161) is still the number-one gourmet spot, although competition is keen from the Eataly megastore in Piazza XXV Aprile (www.eataly.it) for all Italian comestibles. The top floor of the La Rinascente department store in Piazza del Duomo is another haven for foodies, with its Obika mozzarella bar and fine selection of packaged Italian goods (as an added bonus, you get a close-up view of the Duomo). Opened in 2015, the Mercato del Duomo (www.ilmercatodelduomo.it; tel. 02/8633-1924) in Piazza del Duomo aims to be a “gourmet cathedral” directly across from the actual cathedral.

Peck In Milan Is Still One Of Italy’s Grandest Food And Wine Stores

Long before Eataly came on the scene in 2002, Peck was devoted to buying the best and the most sustainable ingredients from small producers, farmers and ranchers. Privately owned, Peck does not disclose its total sales, but while their on-line business, started during the pandemic years and is growing annually, most customers— about 30% of Peck’s clientele is foreign—prefer going to the shop as much for the experience of wandering the beautiful floors of foods and to buy the same exact jams or pastries that have for decades.

The Best Food and Wine Shopping in Milan

Eataly is a huge food market focused on the “Italian way of indulging at the table.” The goal is to make high-quality Italian products easily accessible at affordable prices. The location of this multi-level store is a converted historic theatre and carries not only food (fresh produce, pantry items, sweets and wine), but everything food-related such as cookbooks, utensils and even small appliances. They have pre-made gift boxes and of course, offer the option for custom gifts.

Best Breweries Torino & Milan

In Turin, just outside the "Lingotto" (a former car factory now converted in a mall) there is "Eataly", a big (and expensive) food market that focuses on quality food; downstairs there is the wine and beer market and there you will find a lot of bottles from italian microbreweries!. Unfortunately italian micros almost only use 0,75 L bottles so they may add much weight to your baggage. And they are extremely pricey.
