What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
La Libera is celebrated for its authentic Italian and Lombardian cuisine, with many diners praising its delicious pasta dishes, particularly the Pici with Pistachio Pesto and spinach gnocchi. The tiramisu is a standout dessert. While the atmosphere is consistently described as warm and lively, some patrons note that the outdoor seating area can be affected by smoke and advise caution when ordering wine to avoid unexpectedly high costs.
"Molto buono! Outstanding food, service and decor. We had the artichoke salad with Parmesan which was absolutely delicious. the super rich pici pasta with Pistachio pesto - oh wow, just sooo good. The sauté of seabass with capers and olive was our favourite. Our favourite meal in Milano in terms of local cuisine."

"Authentic food and atmosphere. We sat outside, so keep in mind people next to you will most probably smoke and spaces between the tables are kept to a minimum. The main waiter was very accommodating and made the experience even better. We booked a table as it was Sunday evening, but if you eat earlier than locals there is no need for it."

"The food was wonderful- in particular the pasta with calamari, zucchini and bottargna roe (pictured here.) The service was also incredible as it was crowded by our amazingly efficient waitress kept the whole room running perfectly and our food came out quickly and was delicious. It’s also a great deal and would cost twice as much in the US. If I’m back in Milan I’m definitely returning!"

Restaurants in Milan
Although this establishment in the heart of Brera calls itself nothing more than a birreria con cucina (beer cellar with kitchen), locals come here for excellent evening meals in relaxed surroundings, and the traditional dishes vary with the season. A soft current of jazz and sylvan decor soothe the ripple of conversation. Plates could include involtini di spada gratinati (swordfish rolls with breadcrumb), zuppa di arselle e fregola (couscous soup with clams), and pizza selvatica con pesto e pinoli tosta (rustic pizza with pesto and roasted pine nuts).
A Brief Guide to Milan’s Chic Brera Neighborhood
Ristorante La Libera – This homestyle joint is one of our absolute favorites, not just in the neighborhood but in the whole city. Warm yellow-tinted walls adorned with old-school posters and owner Italo Manca, with his perfectly manicured baffo and colorful outfits (he’s a character!), set the tone for what we consider a good night. A great choice not only for the classics, but for the seafood dishes; with a top-tier fish market, Milan has some of the best seafood in Italy!
In Search Of The Best Tiramisu In Milan
They can't all be unanimous—this tiramisu sparked a lively debate within our team. Half of us were head-over-heels for its rich, custardy texture, while the other half were decidedly not. This tiramisu provoked conversations about everyone's personal criteria for the perfect tiramisu; some preferred a lighter and airier texture, while some of us adored the more velvety density of this one.

Everything on the menu, from the simple handmade tajarin to the enticing veal with caper sauce, is well prepared and excellent.
