Reviews Summary

Ratanà is lauded for its elevated Milanese cuisine, with many highlighting the exceptional risotto alla Milanese and the overall delightful tasting menu experience. Diners frequently praise the elegant yet relaxed ambiance, particularly the garden setting. While most reviews are glowing, a few mentioned specific dishes not meeting expectations and one reviewer found the menu identity unclear.

"We recently dined at Ratanà and had a very enjoyable experience. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between modern elegance and relaxed comfort, making it an ideal setting for a refined yet informal meal.

We started with a selection of antipasti that were beautifully presented and full of flavor—each bite showcasing the kitchen’s attention to seasonal ingredients and careful preparation.

For the main course, we all chose risottos, which did not disappoint. Creamy, well-executed, and rich in taste, they reflected a deep respect for Milanese culinary tradition with a subtle contemporary twist.

Service was courteous and professional throughout. Overall, Ratanà is a solid choice for anyone looking to experience high-quality Milanese cuisine in a welcoming and well-curated environment."

Maurizio Muratore

"Holy moly. I don’t even know where to start with this outrageously amazing food. We decided to go with the tasting menu. It offers the perfect amount of food to have you leaving not overly full, but enough to have you sleep well tonight. Next the service. We had a reservation at opening, but as the night packed up, the service stayed amazing. With every dish, they brought it out and described everything in the plate. They gave you enough time to eat then let the food settle before bringing out the next dish. They give amazing recommendations and never let us down. The atmosphere was beautiful outside. Even though there is a park behind you, I found it quite peaceful listening to the little water running, the people around us, and the families at the park play around.
Truthfully an amazing Italian restaurant!!"

annieruth

"Came back two nights in a row. Superb meals. I personally recommend the Chicken with chickpeas and the Bean pasta, both incredible flavor and high quality. The semifreddo is a must try.

Everything was so good! Not to mention the service. Staff’s recommendation for local wine paired very well with the dishes we selected and everyone was friendly and made us comfortable. Will definitely come back if we are in Milan. Recommend you book in advance."

Eating in Milan: the best restaurants in the Isola area chosen by Gambero Rosso

Cesare Battisti is always there, an analog bug in Milan's skyscraper world, with his small and cultured "trattoria" steeped in a non-postcard Milanese identity, which is his definition of modernity. A farmer at heart, Battisti works with a light touch of respect for raw materials. The menu gives special attention to freshwater fish (smoked trout brick, wild arugula, molten yolk, green pepper, and radishes), but there are also classic dishes (Old Milan risotto) and contemporary classics (tomato 2.0 risotto).

Where to eat outdoors in Milan

Chef Cesare Battisti's restaurant is not only famous for its cuisine: Ratanà also offers a nice space for outdoor dining, as soon as the temperatures rise a little, in the centre, in the Porta Nuova district, between Gioia and Garibaldi, a few steps from the Library of Trees. You will have lunch in the garden of a splendid Liberty building from the early 1900s, admiring the Vertical Forest. There are 70 seats in the outdoor area, but be sure to book ahead.

Outdoor dining in Milan

If you know me, you know this restaurant is a veritable posto del cuore. I dined here in the dead of a Milanese winter in 2012 and Cesare Battisti’s contemporary take on contemporary Milanese fare stole my heart, cleaving itself in there so indelibly that I still remember that entire fateful meal. It never disappoints any time of the year but is even better during the warm weather months when you can bask in its vast outdoor space.
