What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Osteria Donna Teresa is lauded for its authentic, home-style Neapolitan cooking served in a warm, family-run atmosphere. Diners rave about the fresh, daily-prepared dishes and the feeling of dining with family. However, some tourists report inconsistent pricing and a lack of menu transparency, with locals potentially receiving different treatment.
"Such a lovely experience in an old school mom and pop establishment with the incredible mamma cooking the kitchen, the efficient daughter doing service and papà sitting guarding the door and helping out when he can. So cozy and filled with history. The very simple cannellini bean soup with escarole to start off was to die for (zuppa di scarola e fagioli), then had great polpette meatballs with friarelli (rapini). To end, quite a tasty pasteria napolitana (orange blossom water, eggs, ricotta tart/cake). Choice of fixed menu with appetizers, main course with side dish for 20€ (extra for wine/dessert/water)"

"The BEST food I’ve had in Italy! They’re a small family owned restaurant and just bring out what they’ve made fresh for the day. I couldn’t recommend this place enough!"

"A true hidden secret — it feels like you’re eating with family. In fact, it’s probably best not to talk about it too much! 😄
There’s no printed menu; the lady simply comes to your table and tells you what’s cooking that day. Everything is fresh, homemade, and deeply rooted in local tradition.
We had a delicious Genovese pasta — slow-cooked onions and beef, a typical dish from Naples — as well as tender sardines and flavorful meatballs.
The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, and the place is clearly loved by locals. If you’re looking for something truly authentic, this is it."

The best restaurants in Naples
A useful lunch address if you are visiting the Certosa di San Martino, this simple nine-table osteria serves up home-cooking at rock bottom prices, mainly to regular local customers. The choice of dishes varies daily, but you can expect the likes of pasta and potatoes with provola cheese, orecchiette with broccoli, polpette (meatballs, a house speciality) and crispy, deep-fried anchovies. There is a fantastic choice of seasonal vegetables dishes too (parmigiana di melanzane, artichokes, stewed peppers) and homemade puds are wonderful.
eat well and spend a little
Donna Teresa's tavern is a historic restaurant of Vomero, a stone's throw from the main funiculars and the Metro 1 line. The place is small and the management is familiar, so at weekends you could meet greater expectations, although the service is still fast. The atmosphere is homely, almost Spartan, and the dishes reflect exactly the place: here you can savor one ancient and home cookingas if you were going back to eating with your grandmother.
