Reviews Summary
Osteria Pane e Alivi is highly praised for its authentic Sicilian seafood and pasta dishes, with the pistachio pesto pasta being a standout. Diners appreciate the local, cozy atmosphere and friendly service. While some mention that service can be slow or the outdoor seating less ideal, the overall dining experience is consistently rated as delicious and good value.
"Absolutely must-visit if you want to try Sicilian seafood in a local restaurant, a bit hidden from touristic roots. We ordered trio of tartar and a catch of the day for dinner. Everything was fresh and tasty. It seems that locals like to go there, so you can trust the quality)
Service was also great. Even though stuff don’t speak much English, trust me you’d understand everything)"

"Incredible Lunch – True Sicilian Flavors
We had a fantastic lunch at Osteria Pane e Alivi, authentic spot tucked away in a peaceful piazza in Palermo. The food was fresh, flavorful, and full of Sicilian character.
We tried several dishes, each more delicious than the last. The fresh pasta with shrimp and pistachio pesto was a definite highlight—creamy, aromatic, and a must-try. The pasta with tomato sauce, fried eggplants, and salty ricotta was rich and comforting. The ravioli filled with sausage and potatoes, topped with cacio cheese cream and crispy guanciale, was packed with flavor and absolutely comforting and satisfying.
We also shared the sliced beef steak with rocket, cherry tomatoes, Grana Padano flakes, and balsamic vinegar—tender, perfectly cooked, and well-seasoned.
Service was kind and relaxed, making for a perfect midday meal. If you’re in Palermo and looking for a place to enjoy a high-quality, local lunch, this is it. Don’t miss the pistachio pesto!"

"I believe the place itself is quite good and serves traditional sicilian food. We ate the norma pasta which was really good as well as the drinks. However, we also ordered the fried calamari (and shrimp as written on the menu) which were quite pricey for a very (very) small portion of a few fried calamari on salad leaves(without the shrimp mind you, even when i asked if iťs the correct dish and if the shrimp is there i got a positive answer even when the truth was the opposite). We were also sat in a tent outside the restaurant, which is okay as we did not have a reservation and really wanted to try the food here, however the tent was badly lit, the tables were not even due to the ground and the service took quite a long time. The server however was very kind and left a good impression."

The Best Restaurants In Palermo
Located in Piazza Sant'Onofrio (where you’ll find more locals than tourists), Osteria Pane e Alivi has all the hallmarks of a traditional trattoria: a homely menu where every dish is a win, wine barrel décor, brown floor tiles, wooden tables, and chairs, but also some of the less idyllic traits: inconsistent service and long wait times. If good food trumps above all, add Osteria Pane e Alivi to your list and order the caponata, spaghetti with mussels and almost-too-pretty-to-eat cannolo.

The Ultimate Palermo Travel Guide: The Best Of Sicily (2024)
I was lucky to swipe a table for one here on a busy Friday night and I’m so glad I did, because the food, wine and service were fantastic. There were a lot of locals on neighbouring tables which is always a good sign!. Book to avoid disappointment.
What To See And Eat In Palermo, Sicily
You really can’t go wrong with restaurants in Palermo, like most of Italy, but some of my favorite restaurants for traditional Palermitani cuisine include: Osteria Mangia e Bevi, Osteria Pane e Alivi, and Ristorante Sapori Perduti.
