Panzerotti ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น originated inย Apulian cuisine. They are basically small versions ofย calzones, but are usually fried rather than oven-baked, which is why they are also known asย calzoni frittiย . 10/10 #panzerotti #poliagnoamare #italy #pugliafood #streetfood

Reviews Summary

La Rotellina is celebrated for its authentic and delicious panzerotti, offering a variety of fresh fillings. While many praise the quality and reasonable prices, some reviews mention issues with the amount of filling or the dough becoming soggy if not eaten immediately due to the heat. The spot is popular and can get crowded, with occasional remarks about staff attentiveness.

"Weโ€™ve been walking by La Rotellina for the last few days and finally stopped by to try it. We ordered the Mortadella E Provolone sandwich. It came out extremely fresh and warm. The flavors excited me with how good it tasted. The ingredients felt really fresh. The owner and the staff are extremely friendly and nice. We also ordered an aperol spritz for the lady which made her happy while I ate my sandwich the meat and the cheese brought it all together plus having it toasted and worn was my favorite."

Michael Z

"This panzerotto made me sad. The dough was nice, it was made fresh, but there was very little filling. I asked for mozzarella, tomatoes, salami and gorgonzola and there was only a little bit of mozarella that I couldn't find at first and no tomatoes whatsoever. I went back to ask about it and was told both are in. I expected more for โ‚ฌ5."

Kristina Korbelova

"As a big fan of Panzerotti, Iโ€™m always excited to try new spots. La Rotellina has been around for a while, and I had eaten there before, but never took the time to leave a proper review.
When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was how clean and tidy the place looked. Thatโ€™s not something you always see in places that work a lot with flour and dough, so that made a good first impression.
I ordered the classic Panzerotto, filled with mozzarella and tomato. Since I was the only customer at the time, the service was very fast, which was nice.
However, things went downhill when the Panzerotto arrived. It was extremely hot, to the point that I couldnโ€™t take a bite right away without burning my mouth. So I had to wait a few minutes for it to cool down. Unfortunately, during that time, the dough went from being crispy and fluffy to soggy.
When I finally ate it, I realized there wasnโ€™t much filling insideโ€”just a small amount of mozzarella and tomatoโ€”so most of what I was eating was just dough. The flavor was okay, but overall, the experience wasnโ€™t great. It felt a bit disappointing, especially for a place that specializes in Panzerotti."

A great and fun alternative for a meal or a snack, offering panzerotti and frittelle (a type of fried bread) filled in numerous ways. Options range from the classic mozzarella and tomato panzerotto to ones filled with tuma cheese, tuna, tomatoes, and Tropea onions, and a very local one with โ€œbrasciolaโ€ (typical meat rolls). The frittelle feature more elaborate fillings, often inspired by the sea: octopus, tomato, stracciatella, and vegetables, or ricotta with mint, prosciutto, and figs, for example.

Another great on-the-go spot open for lunch or an easy dinner is La Rotellina. This hole-in-the-wall restaurant offers sweet and savory variations of panzerotti, a traditional Pugliese dish that is essentially a deep-fried pizza pocket. I highly recommend the one with tuna, cherry tomatoes and red onions. Small but cozy place. The only flaw is the lack of courtesy of the staff: if you don't write to leave the tables clean you can't use a deliberately rude tone to tell us to take the leftovers to the bins...
