What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Da Gemma is celebrated for its historic charm, spectacular terrace views, and exceptional seafood and pasta dishes, often described as a Michelin-esque experience. While many praise the impeccable service and delicious food, a few diners have noted inconsistent service, with some experiencing indifference or rudeness, and occasional inaccuracies with menu ingredients.
"Best lamb chops in years. Just amazing.
Only issue was them adding Rocket (lettuce) garnish to Beef Carpaccio when it was not a listed ingredient on menu - and many Eastern Europeans (including my spouse) are allergic to lettuce. Tasted great and presentation was pretty, but in future please list all ingredients on menus.
Large wine list from €30 (nice house red) to €1250+ (Opus One …)
Fast and attentive service.
Wonderful and romantic meal. Go at opening (7:30 pm) or make a reservation."

"I’m not sure what the other reviewers weee complaining about because we had a great meal and fabulous service. We came in for lunch!
Our server was courteous and even tried to speak a bit of Thai to us! Food is great, it’s certainly not cheap but worth every penny!
Had the raw seafood dish and some pasta with some prosecco (pictured pasta was split into two portions, you actually get a lot)"
Aaron Lee
"Beautiful restaurant and dishes, though not every one was exceptional. The grilled octopus with potato strips in a cream
sauce was exceptional. The mozzarella prepared 3 ways was also quite good. The tuna carpaccio was beautiful but zero flavor. The service was desultory. Overall, a nice experience in a very touristy spot."

Then there’s the fish soup, perhaps the icon of the place, which should be booked along with the table.

Wine & Dine in the villa or in our favorite restaurants
Terrazza Duomo is our new favorite restaurant in Amalfi, which was established by the excellent former chef of Da Gemma in 2021. It is situated on the roof top of the Hotel Centrale opposite the Duomo. The view on the Duomo, which is one of the most photographed places in Italy, is spectacular as well as the food.
Two Days in Amalfi & Positano
This was our one big splurge meal in Amalfi, and while the food was very good, the service was very slow. It took an age to get the wine brought to the table, but when it finally arrived it was nice. To eat, we both went for Nonna’s ‘pasta alla genovese’ to start – similar to beef stew – which was delicious.

Make sure you book in advance in order to get a table outdoors which is definitely the way to go if possible. You will find old-school service with super attention to detail. As for food, you should go with the fritto misto which is lightly battered seafood.
