Reviews Summary

Ca' de Vèn is celebrated for its exceptional traditional Romagnolo cuisine and unique historical ambiance, set within a 15th-century palazzo. Diners praise the authentic flavors, extensive wine list, and friendly service. However, some have noted that the piadina can be disappointing in quality and size, and the lack of air conditioning can make the atmosphere uncomfortable on hot days.

"Absolutely the best restaurant in Ravenna
Family owned with ladies exceeding our service quality expected levels. Food was exceptional. Wine d's Vinci bottle of Red was a great accompaniment
.lunch time buzz with almost 50 patrons. We were greeted by the matriarch and all the staff provided good service."

"Wonderful spot, beautiful food and very friendly, helpful waiting staff. Lovely atmosphere- seems to be old wine merchant's - with a lot of the paraphernalia still there. We sat at long tables refectory style, we had not booked, but I believe there were individual tables available also. The food was excellent."

"We are in Ravenna for one night, and we chose Ca De Ven for our evening meal.

We walked in without a reservation, and my Italian is limited, so I was trepidatious for the challenges we might face. I needed not worry, for the lady at the front desk was very nice to us and though the place was packed, we were seated within two minutes.

Our waiter was a really cool guy probably in his 20s or 30s, and his demeanor and service were excellent.

We had a delicious grilled piadina with mozz and tomato as our appetizer. It was like $6 and would have made a tasty lunch on its own.

My entree was the tortelli (Americans: good-sized tortellini) alla ragu. Here, as it likely is in much of northern Italy, “ragu” means Bolognese sauce. And let me tell you, the Bolognese at Ca de Ven was just magnificent — the slow cooking of the meat just made it so tender. I am addicted to Parmigiano, but frankly this did not need it.

My GF had the vitello (veal strip steak) with melt-in-your-mouth roasted potatoes and a small salad. That was a great plate! She added a side of gratinated eggplant, zucchini, and tomato which was… incredible. Alas, her eyes were bigger than her stomach, so we’ll be finishing her meal for lunch tomorrow. lol

My only regret is that i could not tip my waiter — cash tips only, and i still have not drawn euros from an ATM. Next time, my man. Next time. Go to Ca de Ven when you’re in Ravenna. Tell them I sent you."

These buildings, joined by a glass-ceilinged courtyard, date from the 15th century, so the setting itself is reason enough to come; that the food is so good makes a visit here all the more satisfying. At lunchtime Ca' de Vèn teems with locals tucking in to piadine (a typical Romagnolo flatbread) stuffed or topped with various ingredients, and the grilled dishes—including tagliata di pollo (sliced chicken breast tossed with arugula and set atop exquisitely roasted potatoes)—are among the highlights. One dish to consider: insalatina di radicchio con bruciatini, a local specialty with raw radicchio and pancetta as a dressing and topping.

Eat piadina at Enoteca Ca’ de Ven: you can’t go to Emilia Romagna county where Ravenna is located without trying piadina!. This typical thin flatbread made with flour, lard, salt and water is delicious on its own or filled with anything from prosciutto to Nutella. Ca’ de Ven, a beautiful wine bar in a 15th century Palazzo with high frescoed ceilings, has been a bit of an institution since the seventies for locals and visitors alike, with its relaxed, convivial atmosphere and excellent list of regional wines.

In Ravenna, people should try piadina; there are two lovely places for it: Ca’ de’ Ven (located in a beautiful old building at Via Corrado Ricci 24) and Piadineria Magnani (a small, family-run place at Via Romolo Ricci 13). For those who love cheese, squacquerone is a must-taste, while meat-lovers should have ciccioli. Another very traditional dish is cappelletti al ragout (traditional, local pasta with meat sauce) or, for the vegetarians, burro e salvia (local spinach ravioli).
