"Wonderful experience! Excellent service with even better food. The ratio of quality and prices is excellent. We had 2 first courses, 2 second and 2 desserts (one with a historic porto) and 2 digestives. Everything was perfect and I would reccomend to try. The owner,as well as the personnel is extremely attentive to the needs of guests."

"A good friend recommended that my wife and I dine here. We enjoyed the dining experience but the service was very slow in the beginning. It took about 30 minutes for the waiter to take our order. Once the order was placed, everything was fine. The wine 🍷 was delicious and reasonably priced. The appetizer was very good and my wife’s pasta was very good. I ordered the sweetbreads with organ meat and it was just ok. I really like sweetbreads but there weren’t very many and the majority of the dish were intestines which aren’t my favorite. Overall a good dining experience. When we return, I’ll order something different."

"Checchino has a fantastic ambience that truly makes you feel like you’re in a classic Italian trattoria. The warm lighting, traditional decors, wooden walls, and cozy atmosphere set the perfect stage for what I hoped would be an unforgettable meal. Being in Testaccio, a neighborhood famous for its food, my expectations were understandably high. It felt like the kind of place where you’d get an authentic Roman dining experience, and in some ways, it delivered.

However, the food fell a little short of what I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong—it was still good, but not at the level I had hoped for. The carbonara was overly salty and, strangely, not cooked al dente, which surprised me given that pasta texture is such a fundamental part of Roman cuisine. I also ordered a bistecca, which turned out to be far too tough for my liking. Maybe I’m just used to how we prepare steaks in the U.S., but it didn’t have the tenderness I was hoping for.

The biggest disappointment, though, was the service. Every time I needed something, I had to wait far too long to get a server’s attention, which was frustrating, especially since the restaurant wasn’t even busy when I visited around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Given the reputation of Checchino, I expected a smoother and more attentive dining experience. Overall, I wouldn’t say it was a bad meal, but with the high standards of Testaccio, I was left wishing for more."
