What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Gelateria dei Gracchi is a beloved spot for authentic, artisanal gelato, praised for its creamy texture and natural flavors. Diners rave about unique creations and seasonal specials. While most reviews highlight exceptional taste and friendly service, a few mention a slight decline in quality and a less welcoming staff compared to previous visits.
"Possibly the best place I went to in Rome, there I discovered my now favourite ice cream flavour: dates and walnuts! I do not know who thought of such a concoction but I am so thankful that they did. I will literally go back to Rome for this alone. When paired with dark chocolate as the other scoop it felt like heaven right in my mouth. Thank you universe!"

"Incredibly tasty. I ordered small size with two flavours: Yogurt and fragoline di bosco.
The yogurt is very creamy and milky while the second one tastes like a milk shake full of the berries. Very fresh, not so icy neither too sweet. It is optimal for someone like me that can’t take too sweet stuff . Love it."

"Gelateria dei Gracchi is absolutely next level! From the moment you step in, you know this is no ordinary gelato spot. The texture is unreal — super creamy, nothing icy, nothing artificial. Every flavour tastes honest, made with real ingredients: pistachio that truly tastes like pistachio, hazelnut with a hint of roasted warmth, fresh fruit sorbetti that zing.
The seasonal flavours are a treat too — they change things up so you always want to try something new.
The shop is charming and modest, nothing flashy, but that’s part of what makes it great. The décor doesn’t distract — the gelato is very much the focus. And despite busy times, the staff are friendly, helpful, and seem genuinely proud of what they’re producing."

The 10 Best Places For Gelato In Rome, Italy
What started as a local gelateria in the residential neighbourhood of Prati has now grown into a four-location enterprise with a reputation for serving some of Rome’s best gelato. It’s all thanks to founder Alberto Manassei’s dedication to using natural ingredients without preservatives, dyes and hydrogenated fats. Thanks to their perfect textures and intense creaminess, the nut flavours are particularly noteworthy and include hazelnut, almond and the famed pistacchio di Bronte.
Where to Find the Best Gelato in Rome: 11 Best Gelato Shops
Lines regularly run out the door of this hole-in-the-wall gelateria, with everyone cramming to set foot in the diminutive red-and-white tiled space. Once inside, it's all about making a beeline to the glass counter and ordering a bag of Gracchi’s signature bon bons—tiny balls of pistachio, hazelnut, and almond gelato that have been dipped in dark chocolate and rolled in chopped nuts. You won't hear English here—this is a Roman favorite, through and through.
The 13 Best Gelato Spots In Rome - Rome
Sure, Prati is just a 20-minute walk from the Vatican, but the main neighborhood attraction is Gelateria dei Gracchi. The best option here is the ricotta and pear or toasted almond with candied orange—it’s the ultimate blend of subtle sweetness and zesty crunch. And if you need a break from all the milk, go with the vegan pistachio.
ROME: a guide to the best ice-cream parlors and cafes
While eating lunch in one of the restaurants recommended to us by locals, some Italian man overheard us talking about ice cream. He criticised some of our choices, some of them he said were for tourists and, of course, he gave us his recommendations. He sent us to Gelateria dei Gracchi on Via dei Gracchi 272 – locals buy ice cream there 🙂 It’s a short walk from Piazza del Popolo… but mind you, you will run into another La Romana, so you may not get anywhere else 😉 Dei Gracchi have three places in Rome – addresses can be found here.
The 10 best gelaterias in Rome
A long-standing reference point in the city: Alberto Manassei's gelateria was among the first to offer a natural, healthy product without pre-gel bases and additioves. Among favourite flavours we loves those made with nuts deserve most attention, exquisite in all variations, from pistachio to almond (rich and justly popular), but chocolate flavours (dark, milk, orange, whole with cacao beans and coconut sugar) are equally tantalizing. And then there are the sorbets, made with mandarin and quince, plus pastry cream and stracciatella.

Our favorite gelato shop in Romeand one we make a point of visiting every time we are in the city is called ‘I Gracchi’. They made a name for themselves years ago because of their obsession with genuine ingredients and traditional making techniques and their gelato is so delicious, they are now pretty much an institution in Rome!. Their shops have simple decor and the star of the show are the gelato flavors themselves: you can choose between creams (I adore zabajone and chocolate orange, seriously delicious) and fruit flavors.

With over four locations in Rome (and counting), Alberto Manassei’s gelateria is seemingly taking over the city. We think it's some of the best gelato in Rome because everything—from the roasted nuts to the freshly cut fruit—is made in house with seasonal ingredients, which means the gelato is about as fresh as it gets. Their reliance on seasonal produce also makes for some interesting flavor combinations (we tried chestnut rum last time we were in).
