La Soffitta Renovatio is highly praised for its exceptional gluten-free options and authentic Italian dishes, including their acclaimed Neapolitan pizza. Diners also appreciate the friendly and attentive service, making it a welcoming spot for both locals and tourists. "Super good gluten free pizza! Never had such a good gluten free pizza and they also have a wide variety of different dishes. The fish of the day was amazing and the grilled vegetables too. The service was wonderful. Our server spoke Italian Spanish and English!! Thank you so much!"

"A Truly Authentic Italian Experience Near St. Peter's Square
This restaurant is a hidden gem, tucked away in a basement just a few minutes' walk from St. Peter's Square.
From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, exuding a positive vibe. They offered excellent advice, which was especially helpful for a first-time visitor like me.
The food was simple yet of great quality. I tried a real Italian pizza for the very first time, and it was an entirely different and superior experience to what you typically find in the UK.
Best of all, the meal was very well-priced and didn't break the bank. A special thank you to all the staff who shared a smile and offered such great recommendations.
I'll definitely recommend this place and will absolutely be back if I get the chance!

"Very delicious and fresh food. We tried the gluten free ravioli and pasta and they were amazing. Also supli, Italian starter, was available gluten free and was very delicious. We did not try their pizza but saw people ordering both gluten free and regular pizza and they both looked great. Definitely recommended!"

Where to eat near the Vatican: best restaurants and eateries you'll love

I first discovered La Soffitta Renovatio as recommended to be as one of the best gluten free restaurants in Rome and since then it has become a favorite as the quality of their food is indeed excellent all around. The restaurant offers a full menu with options for starters, pasta, meat and fish options, it has good soups, pizza and is very attentive to the needs of gluten free and lactose free guests: the restaurant is certified by AIC (Italian Association for Coeliacs). A special mention goes to their gluten free dished but also their fried starters typical of the Rome tradition (Suppli! Zucchini Flowers! Baccala’!), which are becoming increasingly hard to find, despite being a Rome staple.

Gluten Free in Rome

Having been to Mama Eat when visiting the Vatican we actually went to La Soffitta Renovatio on a different day as it was located near Ottaviano metro station so still pretty easy to get to. On entering the restaurant it looked deserted but once around the corner there were actually lot of occupied tables. I was handed the menu and when I asked about gluten free I was told pretty much everything could be made gluten free, including fried food as they had different fryers.
