Old Bridge Gelateria

One of the most famous gelateria in Rome, Old Bridge Gelateria is located a stone’s throw away from Saint Peter’s Basilica. We had to include it in our list of the best gelato in Rome for one reason at least: the freshness of its ingredients and the authenticity of its ice creams. The flavors there are exceptional, and you can choose between four different sizes that range from €2 to €5 – perfect for every member of the family.

It’s impossible to miss this gelato and crepes shop on your way from the Vatican Museum to St. Peter’s Cathedral. The two founders realized their dream of opening a gelateria in Rome’s center 30 years ago, and now it’s become a franchising project. This is one of the best choices in terms of quality/quantity/cost relationship, also convenient if you want to buy by a kilo or half-kilo.

Ice-cream makers Gianni and Antonell opened Gelateria Old Bridge a stone’s throw from St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums 25 years ago. Since then the artisanal gelateria has used only the finest, hand-picked ingredients to make its now famous ice cream. Its innovative flavors as well as its natural ingredients draw in long lines of happy punters every day.

You can find these gelaterie dotted around Rome, most notable beside the Vatican (near the wittily named pizzeria ‘Habemus Pizza’), and in the delightful Trastevere. The sizes here are generous, though the staff can at times seem rushed or disinterested. Don’t be put off though, the flavors are worth it, and the texture is both refreshing and creamy.

With three locations around Rome, Old Bridge is a convenient option, but the best one is right across the street from Vatican City. If you’re visiting the Vatican, you can’t ask for a better location for a post-tour treat. It’s a small window with a limited selection of flavors, but the quality is impressive.

Many of you recommended this place and many of you will get there, because Old Bridge can be found right next to Vatican’s walls. Vatican will definitely be on your to-see list, so you should get a snack here. My favorite – Mandorla e Pinoli, which is almonds and pine nuts.
