Roscioli Caffè is part of the Roscioli-family empire, which includes an upscale restaurant and a speciality bakery with institution-like status in Rome. Thanks to its use of Arabica beans from Torrefazione Giamaica Caffè, an artisanal roaster based in Verona, and its interest in brewing techniques new to Romans – such as pour-over and syphon – this tiny shop has quickly become known for its top-quality coffee. Enjoy with a cream-filled bun known as a maritozzo, a Roman speciality.

Best for: Coffee and pastries near the Jewish QuarterTo be clear, not all coffee in Italy is good. More often than not it is bitter, burnt, and served alongside horrible industrial pastries. If you are going to have one espresso or cappuccino in Rome, do yourself a favor and go directly to Roscioli Caffè, near the Jewish Quarter.

A household name in Rome best known for their baked goods and fantastic restaurant, the Roscioli brand has recently added a great little cafe to their collection. Just steps from their flagship restaurant, the cafe is very small but has a great selection of Italian coffees and a very tempting selection of pastries and cakes from the bakery (get the Maritozzo!!). The usual suspects are available here like Cortado, Macchiato, Cappuccino, and of course Espresso but you can get a V60 pour over here as well.

Roscioli Caffe’ Pasticceria is one of my favorite places to enjoy a Roman breakfast in the Italian Capital. You will love their filled croissants, maritozzi alla panna, and other delicious little cakes with chocolate, cream, or fruits. When we had breakfast at Roscioli Caffe Pasticceria last month, we enjoyed the pastry called the Quirinale (like a small Maritozzo filled with pine nuts and sultanas), the Maritozzo con Panna, and the Bomba (like a doughnut filled with vanilla custard).

Just a ten-minute walk away from Antico Caffè Sant’Eustachio, we discover Roscioli Caffè Pasticceria. The gourmet family owns a bakery, a modern pizzeria, a well-respected restaurant, and a wine school that all lie within a few minutes’ walk of each other in the historic center of the city. As a result, specialty coffee was a natural next frontier. The understated entrance of the cafe is easy to miss, but finding a spot along the bar can require patience and/or a well-placed assertive elbow nudge.

Bar Roscioli is a Roman cafe, but also a restaurant later in the day. Now, Bar Roscioli is considered the place where you could get one of the best coffee in Rome, and the interior design and style of this place are also really appealing. Just near Campo di Fiori, I’d call Roscioli Cafe also one of the best places to go for small sweets, delicious sandwiches, and other dishes.

A small bar located in the vibrant Roscioli restaurant area invites tourists and locals for a fun breakfast featuring Italian-influenced espresso, pastries and dolci that go well with your morning coffee. Italians typically avoid heavy breakfast such as eggs so be prepared to dine on the lighter side and chat with locals to make your Italian breakfast experience truly Roman.

After they cornered the market on pizza and bread at Antico Forno bakery for four generations, the Roscioli brothers opened a neighborhood coffee bar and pastry shop, which, despite little standing room, never fails to please locals. Along with spectacular coffee drinks (hot ones come in heated cups), the pastries are divine. Many are old-school, hard-to-find Roman dolci.

On the counter, the maritozzo by Roscioli Caffè makes a fine show: soft and puffy, filled with lots of fresh whipped cream, and filled at the moment is another of the most popular maritozzo in town. Ideal for a delicious breakfast, while for an aperitif you can opt for one of the many savoury variations available.

Located next to the famed Campo dei Fiori flower market, the family-owned Roscioli spans a restaurant, salumeria, wine bar, bakery and now a café, and is a gastronomic institution in the city. In fact, they’re starting to expand – the first location outside of Rome opened its doors in July 2023, in New York City.

We stumbled on this place because it was near our Campo di Fiori apartment. The Roscioli name is well known as they have a popular pizza place around the corner, and another deli/restaurant just a few doors down. The coffee was solid and the pastries in the morning and sandwiches in the afternoon were tasty.

I realize that many of my “Best of Rome” articles seem to include one of the Roscioli family eateries. I feel it’s time to say I am not related to the family in any way, nor do I receive any compensation for my recommendations. I just can’t travel to Rome and not visit a few of the Roscioli establishments.

Kicking off this list of the best coffee in Rome with my personal favorite: Roscioli Caffè Pasticceria. When I visited Rome in June, this was my go-to spot for coffee in Rome and I visited them daily (sometimes twice a day). The staff were welcoming and warm, and the coffee was exceptional!

Pasticceria Barberini: The locals of Testaccio have been flocking to Barberini for their morning coffee and pastries for almost a century. The delicate array of sweet treats are all made on-site, think cream-filled creations, almond-topped croissants and mini tiramisu.

Roscioli Caffè Pasticceria - Okey, you probably heard about the Roscioli family. Now they also have a coffee shop. Roscioli Caffè Pasticceria is located in the heart of Rome, just a stone's throw away from the famous Campo de' Fiori market.

Roscioli Caffe – Good spot for a traditional Italian breakfast – coffee paired with a stuffed pastry. I love their cream-filled brioche and cornettos. It can get busy, so be prepared to wait for a table.

You’ll find here homemade cakes, fruit tarts, and since Roscioli Caffè Pasticceria is a coffee shop and a bakery, do take a moment in the morning to enjoy breakfast on the tables outside.

Head to Trastevere and find Roscioli Caffè near Campo de’ Fiori. This spot offers excellent coffee and mini pastries. You can enjoy them during a morning stroll or an afternoon break.
