Reviews Summary

La Vecchia Latteria is celebrated for its exceptional gelato, with unique flavor combinations and generous servings at reasonable prices. While most praise the quality and taste, some reviewers have noted staff attitudes and a confusing ordering process for certain flavors.

"Absolutely amazing gelato! Not the largest range of flavours, but everything is soooo good. Better to concentrate on fewer offerings and do them exceptionally well.

The pistachio is an absolute standout if this is your favourite nut!

You can watch the gelato being made through the large glass window in the store.

Very reasonable prices.

Highly recommended"

"This is one of the best gelato places I've visited in Italy. This is the second time I've been. First time was 3 years ago. Last time I had this divine raspberry flavour. And this time the strawberry blew me away. Incredible!"

Aretta Okafor

"LOVE IT! Nothing like old school and good ole gelato. We had the caramel, pistachio and nocciola scoops. Amazing texture, sweetness and that right tinge of saltiness (for the pistachio). So nice and creamy. I wish I could have them continuously but my pants won’t approve :) !"

The gelateria is very popular and can have short waits, especially during peak hours. Visiting early or late is advised.

The place is small and described as a hole in the wall. There are stools for seating, but distance between tables can be minimal.

Google Review+1

While not explicitly detailed, some fruit-based sorbets might be vegan. It's best to inquire directly about vegan options.

The tourist who stumbles across this hole in the wall will be rewarded with one of the best ice creams in Tuscany, and perhaps the whole of Italy. La Vecchia Latteria may seem modest, with an interior and display that doesn’t compare to other ice cream parlors in the city; but the richness and creaminess of its flavors can hardly find a match elsewhere. La Vecchia prides itself on using the freshest and most natural ingredients, meaning new ice cream flavours are made daily and you never know quite what delicious variety to expect.

One day in Siena - My city guide

A gelateria that uses the word latteria (milk shop) in its name immediately touches the tender places of my heart. I imagine a truly genuine-tasting, homemade gelato, reassuring like those from times gone by. Taste their fior di panna (cream) flavor, and tell me if I’m not right.
