Reviews Summary
Osteria Il Carroccio is celebrated for its authentic and delicious Tuscan cuisine, particularly its homemade pastas and flavorful starters, all served in a cozy and romantic atmosphere. While many praise the food quality and value, a few diners have experienced unwelcoming service or issues with food preparation, leading to a mixed but largely positive sentiment.
"Reservations for lunch or dinner highly recommended as it is a small, cozy space!
We came for lunch. We reserved in the morning of our visit, but it was still the slow season. Extensive menu which allowed for a variety of dishes ordered. Everyone enjoyed all that was ordered. Close to Il Campo on a side street that leaves it almost hidden in plain sight. Very friendly staff that was happy to accommodate a few of our dietary needs. Relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely return on our next Siena visit."

"This was our best meal in Italy. We didn't have reservations but arrived when they opened and were seated immediately (2 of us). We got the artichoke truffle tortino, the cacio e pepe, pesto gnocchi, and steak with cream sauce and caramelized onions. Everything was AMAZING. I have never tasted anything like the artichoke tortino and it was to die for. The pastas were perfectly cooked and the steak was amazing. 100% recommend going here if you are in Siena! Super close to Piazza del Campo as well."

48 Hours in Siena
Head to slow food-endorsed Il Carroccio (closed Wednesdays) for lunch - though a note of caution, get there much later than 12:30pm and you'll risk a prolonged wait out on the sidewalk. Their pasta offerings include the especially popular pici, a thick spaghetti typical to the region.
When in Siena where to eat
Regarding little trattorias… hard to find a real one, maybe Il Carroccio…maybe Osteria di via dei Rossi... try the Cinghiale al dolce e forte (wild-boar in a sweet-and-sour sauce). It’s the best in town and a very traditional dish.
This well-run, quaint trattoria serves simple but full-bodied Tuscan dishes. Tuck into cured meats, Florentine T-bone steak and pork casserole. Osteria Il Carroccio proudly offers meaty home-cooking, with a Slow Food ethos.
