What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
La Cantinaccia del Popolo is overwhelmingly praised for its authentic, delicious Italian food and incredibly reasonable prices, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes diners feel like locals. While many rave about dishes like ravioli and tomato pasta, and appreciate the lively service, some have experienced long waits and found the seafood pasta overly salty, leading to a less enjoyable experience.
"This restaurant was across the street from our hotel and the large queues made us curious. We soon found out when we tried there. The food is amazing, lovely atmosphere and authentic. You will have to queue, but very worth it. We came 2 nights in a row. I had the seafood pasta on night 1 which came in the large Vesuvius dish (very impressive) and night 2 I had the octopus and a dessert. Must visit. The house wine is very cheap and very nice."

"We got extremely lucky and happened to book a hotel opposite this local favourite. Truly blown away. On both occasions, we had a combination of excellent service from a gentleman and (we think) the one female serving tables. There may be more of course but she was pretty phenomenal at her job (and we work in hospitality). The restaurant is fun, has a wonderful atmosphere and the food is just something else! Every dish we had was an explosion of flavour; clean plates every time. We can’t recommend a visit to this restaurant enough. In our experience, watching from our pool, the queues were fairly steady. Lunchtime seemed to be calmer and easier to get a table (we went for lunch both times) but the team work hard to accommodate and the queue does go down fairly quickly (although, as a customer, you don’t feel rushed). We have 3 days left of our holiday and will be back for one last visit! Excellent."

"We love this place 🍝
We visited this restaurant 4 times during our stay in Sorrento, and every single visit was perfect! The food is absolutely the best we’ve had, and the service is just as incredible. They always went out of their way to accommodate us, and we felt so welcomed every time.
It’s walk-in only with no bookings, but it was definitely worth the wait. The atmosphere felt like sitting in Nonna’s house, enjoying hearty Italian food at a very reasonable price – and it’s absolutely NOT a tourist trap.
The ravioli was our favourite stand out dish, wow!
A huge thank you to the owner Pepe and the amazing staff Angelo, Rosita, Mary & Andrea – you made our experience unforgettable.
We’ve recommended this restaurant to all of our family and friends who have since visited Sorrento, and they’ve all raved about it (many going back multiple times too!).
Can’t wait to visit again!"
