Near the steps of the Marina Grande, this reliable choice for seafood (established in 1947) might not be Sorrento's most visually prepossessing place, but its homespun, family feel—complete with wooden tables and checked tablecloths—is a refreshing change from the town's (occasionally pretentious) elegance.

Trattoria Da Emilia is a cosy and welcoming restaurant located in the heart of Sorrento’s historic center. The restaurant is family-owned and operated, with a warm and friendly atmosphere that makes guests feel right at home. The decor of this romantic Sorrento restaurant is simple and rustic, with traditional Italian elements such as exposed brick walls, wooden beams, and colorful ceramic tiles.

What you really come for is the setting: A dock out over the beach, with little fishing boats pulled up on the sand to one side and the waves of the Mediterranean washing out before you. The simple, hearty fare has been cooked up since 1947 by Emilia (hence the nickname by which everybody calls this place, which is officially known as "Trattoria S. Anna") and now by her daughters...

Among all the restaurants in the fishing village of Marina Grande, it is the oldest and most traditional one: among its tables some scenes from the movie “Bread, Love and …” with Sophia Loren were shot. Since 1947 this restaurant offers family and home cooking with a sea view. It does not accept reservations: you take a seat at the first available table.

The waiter will ask how many servings you want and your favourite toppings, you will then be served one long pizza cut into different slices depending on the number of toppings chosen. The atmosphere is casual, with plastic tableware, shared tables, and fast service.

It is a seafood trattoria and you had better order seafood here. If you want a classic Sorrento lunch, order the spaghetti and clams and a glass of Falaghina.

This is traditional Italian fare in a beautiful setting. If you want to sit out on the terrace, as many people do, you will most likely face a bit of a queue.

Among the restaurants serving fresh seafood at Marina Grande is also Trattoria da Emilia. They say this is the oldest one in this bayside fishing village. The menu here is not very extensive but they do specialize in seafood and you’ll find that in plenty.

This typical trattoria is perfect for a laid-back lunch or dinner. Expect nothing fancy but just top-quality food, how we expect it in Italy ;) with traditional cuisine, think of: fried mozzarella, fresh fish and anything else delicious.

Like everyone else, we order baskets of fritto misto (fried fish) and crisp white wine. It’s noisy and crowded, but the seafood is spot-on and the view to Vesuvius is postcard-perfect. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

If you like seafood, there’s no better place to come than this. The restaurant is on the seafront in the Marina Grande. At certain times, you’ll see the day’s fresh catch being unloaded straight from the boats to the restaurant.

Marina Grande is a smaller marina with colourful buildings that house many family-run seafood trattories Stop by Trattoria da Emilia for hearty seafood gnocchi, or Bagni Delfino for a meal with a delicious view.

Nevertheless, we walked down towards Sorrento's most famous restaurant, Trattoria da Emilia. It also happens to be one of Sophia Loren's favourites, and has been since the 1960s.
