Reviews Summary

Fratelli Burgio is celebrated for its vibrant market atmosphere, generous and delicious sandwiches, and exquisite charcuterie boards. While many praise the quality of food and efficient service, some diners have experienced a chaotic environment and found the bread to be dry.

"Wow! Excellent spot at the start of busy, vibrant food market. We parked in one of the car parks across the road & just stumbled on it but what a find. Very busy but still got seated quickly. The selections of meat, cheese, fish or combo boards are excellent and as for their sandwiches, just awesome. Washed down with a nice dry white white or Aperol & you will have an awesome time. For coffee lovers you’ve got to have their shakerato - shaken, cold espresso served chilled in a martini glass!"

"Amazing sandwiches. Prosciutto mozzarella and tomato.
spicy ventricina salami baked ricotta grilled peppers mixed salad chili pate spread and two small beers.

Bread had sesame seeds. YUM!
Place was packed and wildly efficient and service fast.

We ended up going inside after lunch and buying more food, bread and goods to go."

Jo Ellen Verna

"Located next to the market, it is quite crowded and chaotic but that felt like it was part of the charm.

Olives were very good. The swordfish and tuna sandwiches were both very tasty, the fish tasted great. One negative point, we felt like the bread was a bit too dry / hard.

The interior feels very cute and typical Sicilian. They also have a small shop selling local goods."

This small bar and deli is another must-visit spot on the fringes of Ortigia's historic market. You can choose from a generously stuffed panini, a plate of the local antipasti, or a small plate of whatever is in season from the sea. Be sure to visit the deli before you leave to stock on food-based souvenirs to take home.

Ortigia, Sicily, Is One of the Most Beautiful Places in Italy

Sarris recommends eating at Fratelli Burgio, the salumeria right next door to Caseificio Borderi. Fratelli Burgio makes excellent salads and sandwiches, but it's especially renowned for its charcuterie boards. Each one features little bowls filled with local meats, cheeses, vegetables, and delicious house-made spreads.

The Nomadic Vegan

Vegan Foodie Paradise in Siracusa, Sicily

I picked up a few bars in a shop called Fratelli Burgio, which was just next to Caseificio Borderi in the Siracusa market where we got the wonderful sandwiches. They had at least a dozen different flavours, and all the ones I looked at were vegan and were made with the simplest of ingredients. In fact, the ingredients list generally contained just three items: cacao, sugar and whatever else was used to provide the particular flavour of that bar (lemon zest, orange zest, star anise, etc.).

Mangia! These are the best restaurants to eat at in Sicily

The little island of Ortigia, the historic heart of the city of Siracusa, is one of Sicily’s most picturesque corners, with a discovery waiting around every corner. Among them is Fratelli Burgio, a hybrid deli-restaurant on the edge of the local markets, where you can order up a tagliere, or wooden platter, laden with artisanal produce from salume and cheeses to tangy caponata. It is also a great place to pick up foodie souvenirs: the lemon marmalade is recommended.

Where to eat in Ortigia, Sicily

Fratelli Burgio – This salumeria has been in the market of Ortigia for generations. The last time I was there it was closed up, but I just read that they have re-opened just down the street, near the port. They are known for their incredible tagliere, tasting boards full of cured meats, cheeses, and cured vegetables and fish.

Lunches at the market at La Salumeria Fratelli Burgio & dinner at Retro La Locanda were highlights. Also coffee after dinner in Piazza Duomo & Piazza Archimede. We had 48 hours in Ragusa & visited Modica by rail in the morning, arranging a taxi to the station & on return walking back via the Cathedral in Ragusa Superiore.
