What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Al Barattolo offers a delightful dining experience, praised for its exceptional Neapolitan-style pizza and delicious, freshly made pasta dishes. The cozy atmosphere, especially the canal-side terrace seating, adds to its charm. While most reviews are glowing, a few mention that some starters and desserts can be average, and prices may be slightly higher for a pizzeria in Trieste, though many feel the quality justifies the cost.
"We are very pleasantly surprised by the food in your restaurant. We came to Trieste to do some sightseeing in this beautiful city. We were looking for a place to eat quietly for a long time and we came to you to taste Italian cuisine. We will recommend it to our compatriots from Poland! See you soon!"

"The gluten free pizza here was amazing. I have never had gluten free crust taste this good. The severs were very nice as well. One of our pizzas had curry, which I would never had ordered, but the waiter recommended it. It was delicious!"

"We visited Al Barattolo because of its supposedly excellent Neapolitan-style pizza. The restaurant is nicely located in the center of Trieste and is large. The many tables were full by 7:30 p.m. The staff is friendly and quick. That deserves 5 stars.
However, the food was rather average. Admittedly, the pizza was good. We chose one with seafood. The dough was really super thin on the inside and thick and fluffy on the outside. That's how it's supposed to be.
We were disappointed by the Trieste-style cold cuts platter as a starter. It was rather bland and uninspiring. The bread served with it (supposedly homemade) was also only average. We were very disappointed that no Italian olive oil was served at the table, but instead an extra virgin olive oil made with EU olives. In general, these oils are cheaper but not appropriate for a restaurant like this. The olive oil was also unimpressive.
The prices are on the high side for Trieste for a pizzeria. Overall, just under 4 stars. Not a must-visit, but OK."
