I discovered Algiubagio a couple of summers ago by way of Aman Venice’s bar manager, Antonio Ferrara, when I asked for a more local recommendation for lunch. Algiubagiò was born at the beginning of the 1900s as a tavern and has since morphed into one of the city’s greatest places to dine (that’s still somewhat of a secret), with a beautiful terrace overlooking the lagoon. Inside, the most beautiful hand-blown Murano chandeliers hang from the ceiling, giving a nod to the island of Murano just across the way.

Algiubagiò is also a must when it comes to stunning views of Venice. Chef Daniele Zennaro has been in charge here for more than a year, offering creative dishes faithful to local flavours, from ricotta and spinach gnocchi with sea urchins, cashews and plums with thyme, to yellow grouper skewers with kefir lime and puff pastry, panzanella and cucumber sauce. Here you can dine on the terrace, with a view of the island of San Michele.
