What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Il Paradiso Perduto is lauded for its delicious and authentic Venetian cuisine, particularly its abundant seafood dishes and generous portions. The lively atmosphere, often enhanced by live music, makes it a popular local haunt. However, some diners have experienced rude service and noted potential issues with credit card transactions.
"This place was amazing! Such interesting seasonal dishes. I had octopus on asparagus puree with broad beans which was wonderful and a risotto on tiny mussels and agretti. The staff were friendly and informative - especially Camilla! Music as well. Highly recommend."
Vanessa Vecellio
"Food was alright, nothing too special. The seafood plate was big for two people. I think four people could share it. I also ordered the squid ink pasta which took the kitchen forever to make. Didn't taste good at all (or maybe it was me who was not used to that dish). The plus was the customer service. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. Same to the owner. FYI, lucky that I reserved a table in advance. It was packed when I got there."

"A lovely and vibrant restaurant, buzzing with locals and live entertainment!
We hadn't booked a table but we were lucky enough to have arrived early enough for them to squeeze us in. Please reserve a table if you do want to visit as you don't want to miss out on the delicious food!
I had the pesto linguine and hubby had the seafood linguine for mains and we had fennel, orange and cheese salad and calamari to start, simply delicious and full off flavour! Highly recommend!"

The 24 Best Restaurants In Venice, Italy - Venice
There’s a lot to love about Il Paradiso Perduto, including the massive portions, occasional live jazz, and big space that’s always loud and feels like a party. Be sure to book ahead, as it’s the only way you’ll be able to get a table inside or out by the canal—otherwise, you’ll be stuck standing next to the water, eating your cicchetti, and peering creepily inside like Javert does in Les Miserables. Look for the pasta machine in the window cranking out fresh bigoli, which they use in a dish that comes with so many prawns, scallops, and mussels that you can hardly see the pasta.
Nightlife in Venice
Paradiso Perduto has been catering to night owls since the '80s with drinks, wine, and slightly overpriced fish dishes (a better option is the cicheti). The old piano has witnessed Chet Baker and Archie Shepp jams, and the place still serves up live music—mainly local and international jazz groups. It attracts young people and students alongside tourists, creating a very lively atmosphere.
A Venetian Bar Owner Shares The Best Bars In Cannaregio To Sip On A Spritz
Beloved by students and Venetians, Paradiso Perduto is a bar located on Fondamenta degli Ormesini. “You need to visit the whole Fondamenta during summer, at the Paradiso and all the other nearby bars, drinking something cold while the sun goes down on our lovely canals – it’s just so pretty,” says Zanon. The site offers a lively, homely atmosphere, live jazz music and the freshest seafood.
Hidden Venice: A Bacari Bar Crawl for an Aperitivo like a Local
Seemingly nameless, you pass this bacaro after Paradiso, and will hopefully recognise it from the photo below. This tiny little bar is mainly on the list because of its potential for a sly practical joke played on a drunken friend. Some of the more traditional bacari have a serving hatch outside to avoid a crush at the metre long bar, but make sure you do pop inside this one and visit the tanks of stick insects, which shrewd visitors will realise are only visible as a figment of a very intoxicated imagination.
Venezia: vita notturna e locali
The 5 Best Cheap Eats Venice Has If You're Traveling on a Budget
While this restaurant isn’t the cheapest of them all, it is a local favorite. If you want to try the most classic Venetian dish, squid ink pasta (don’t let the black sauce intimidate you), this is where you should go. The pasta and seafood are fresh, and you can tell Paradiso Perduto is authentic because the menu is entirely in Italian, which is unusual for a touristy city like Venice.
Traveling to Beautiful Venice: Our Favorite Sights, Bites, and Highlights
Some of our other memorable meals included Paradiso Perduto, which came highly recommended by two separate guides, including Devin, during the trip. It’s located in the Cannaregio district in the northern part of the island, and felt like a place beloved by local Venetians. It was very lively and busy — we were able to walk in, but reservations would be recommended.

While I have read some good reviews of Paradiso Perduto in Cannaregio, it appears it is very noisy and a bit rowdy, so not what we seek.
