The beautifully plated dishes change seasonally but might include remarkably subtle renditions of risotto with yellow tomatoes and burrata, or pork cheek and belly with chamomile-flavored creamed potato and green apple.

Owner Gianni Bonaccorsi is now flanked by his son Nicolò in this diminutive shrine to foodie excellence with exposed brick walls, and splashes of colour provided by some jazzy Murano water glasses. The menu is ever-changing but might include swede risotto with cumin and hibiscus, or beef rack with black garlic-flavoured puréed potatoes and turnip greens. Desserts are unmissable – think candied tomato, buffalo ricotta ice cream and citrus flavoured caramel sauce.

I'm happy to see that "La Zucca" and "Il Ridotto" are still there and are still recommended. These two were restaurants we made sure to come back to on following trips.

a real gem is a small restaurant in the center of San Marco call Il Ridotto (means "reduced"). One of the best meals I've ever had and I've been there on previous trips. Family run and the wife takes orders and no-one speaks a lot of English but it all works out.
