Reviews Summary

La Palanca is highly praised for its exceptional fresh seafood and authentic Venetian dishes, with many calling it the best food they've had in Venice. Diners rave about the friendly, genuine service and the wonderful atmosphere, especially the waterside tables offering stunning views. While generally excellent, some note that prices are typical for Venice.

"We just arrived from Rome while I am very disappointed with the food there but this place recovered me from that experience. What a great pasta! And the sea food, all the sauce and sides of food and the fish plate … all amazing."

"I would give 10 stars if I could! 🌟 The atmosphere and the food were amazing. This place is popular for a reason, so having a reservation is recommended. We found it spontaneously and still managed to get a table inside. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and the food took us to the heaven and back! It was by far the most delicious food we tried in Venice. The mixed starter was so good and then they topped it for me with a simple pasta with tomato sauce. I say simple, but it was absolutely delicious! If you can make something so simple taste so delicious, you definitely know what you are doing. 🍝
My husband has ravioli with fish and was also super impressed.
Regards and big thank you to the whole crew there! You made our day. It’s worth it to come back to Venice just to eat at this place again. ❤️❤️❤️"

"There is something so special about La Palanca. Beyond the incredible food, it’s the genuine service and the ambiance, where tourists and locals rejoice, that makes it a true treasure.

We’ve been in Venice for 3 days and after seeking more central (near San Marco) / mainstream options on all the “where to go lists” - it was La Palanca that stood out above the rest.

They were also incredibly attentive to allergies / intolerances, which goes a long way.

10/10 would recommend for the friendly service, location, and fantastic food."

23 Best Restaurants in Venice

Giudecca residents roll up for coffee at 7am and for the obligatory spritz or ombra (small glass of wine) at aperitivo hour. But at lunch time (because that’s the only meal served) a whole other clientele materializes as the kitchen begins churning out some exceptional seafood. You can taste the sea in La Palanca’s dishes, which range from huge platters of excellent seafood antipasti—raw and cooked—to great pasta with squid and artichokes or simple, grilled Adriatic fish.

The 36 best restaurants in Venice

As with many of Venice's best eateries, La Palanca feels like (and to all intents and purposes is) a neighbourhood bar even when it's packed with hungry diners, who eat lunch (no dinner is available) in the cheerful back room or at the highly-sought-after tables by the Giudecca canal. The cuttlefish-ink risotto is delicious, as are mains like grilled tuna with balsamic vinegar and sesame seeds. There are meat and vegetarian options too.

It's all about the views at this classic, informal wine bar–restaurant, where tables perched on the water’s edge are often filled with chatty patrons, particularly at lunchtime. The homemade pasta and fish dishes are highly recommended, and although they don't really serve dinner, a filling selection of cicheti is offered in the evening.

13 Best Restaurants in Venice in 2025 To Try Authentic Venetian Food

Giudecca is the district for the closest major islands to the main island of Venice. It’s where many high-end hotels and villas are found, and it’s a little quieter than the rest of Venice since you have to take a vaporetto (water taxi) to get there. But it just might be worth it for the view of the canal and the Basilica Santa Maria della Salute from the waterfront terrace at La Palanca.

Why Giudecca is the place to go

Already the locals are spilling out of La Palanca bar a few doors down, with their pre-lunch glasses of Spritz or Prosecco. The Venetian dialect is so thick you could cut it with a knife, and on this bitingly cold January day no other languages, not even Italian, dilute those sharp vowels, those truncated syllables.
