What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Osteria Alla Bifora is a beloved local spot praised for its friendly service and authentic Venetian ambiance. Guests rave about the delicious sharing platters of cured meats and cheeses, and traditional dishes like cuttlefish in ink. While some reviews highlight the food as outstanding, one reviewer found the dishes to be disappointing and seemingly reheated, recommending it more for drinks and atmosphere.
"An excellent local eatery specialising in sharing platters of cured meats and cheese. Good wine and amicable staff! A bottle of wine people-watching the passeggiata of Campo Santa Margarita is an evening well spent!"

"Disappointing Dining Experience
The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and pleasant, creating a nice atmosphere to relax in. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming, which was a great start to the evening. Unfortunately, the food was a major letdown. It was clear that the dishes were simply reheated in a microwave—there was no depth of flavor, and everything tasted bland and unappetizing. It’s such a shame, because the setting and the staff were great, but the food simply did not meet expectations.
I would recommend this place for drinks and a relaxing atmosphere, but definitely not if you‘re looking for a good meal.
I hope they can improve the quality of their meals in the future."

Restaurants in Venice
A beautiful and atmospheric bacaro, Alla Bifora has such ample, satisfying fare that most Venetians consider it a full-fledged restaurant. Offerings include overflowing trays of cold, sliced meats and cheeses; various preparations of baccalà (cod); and Venetian classics, such as polpette (croquettes), sarde in saor, and marinated anchovies. La Bifora also serves up a couple of excellent hot dishes; the seppie in nero (cuttlefish stewed in a sauce made with its ink) is among the best in the city.
8+ Kid Friendly Restaurants In Venice - From A Mom Of Four Living In Italy
Osteria Alla Bifora is one of my top picks for eating at a classic Venetian restaurant with kids because of its cool location in a large, safe square with ample outdoor seating. While kids wait for their meal they can run around and play in Campo Santa Margherita without the nearby canals making you nervous (I am always thinking about this when traveling to Venice with kids who can’t yet swim). Order classic Venetian dishes such as polenta with baccalà or spaghetti with squid ink and share plates of charcuterie and local cheeses.
10 of the Best Cicchetti Bars in Venice
Originally a butcher’s shop, Osteria alla Bifora fittingly specializes in salami and other Italian cured meats: order their generous affettati platter or a tagliere (meat with cheeses) or a plate with swordfish carpaccio and pomegranate seeds. You’ll also find traditional cicchetti favorites such as baccala montecato (salted creamed cod), and uove lavorate (hard-boiled eggs) draped with anchovy. The owner Franco is like that uncle who just keeps wanting to feed you.

In Campo Santa Margherita here is what is a bit of an institution with its fish dishes such as the Trio of cod, cuttlefish with polenta, but also cheese and salami dishes. The wines they offer are excellent. The atmosphere is very characteristic with a large window at the bottom, patere (a kind of ornamental medallions typical of the Veneto area) and sometimes it happens that the light bulbs are replaced by candlelight, if the Franco host in a romantic mood.

Located in Campo Santa Margherita, this is a favorite with locals and tourists alike. Expect it to be busy and you might have to wait for a table, but order a glass of Prosecco, it’s worth the wait. The menu itself is quite small.
