What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Murray's Fish and Jerk Hut is praised for its authentic Jamaican jerk dishes, particularly the chicken and rabbit, and its warm, tropical ambiance. Many reviewers highlight the flavorful seasoning and attentive customer service, making it a convenient and popular stop for travelers. However, some guests have noted inconsistent service and occasionally dry or bland preparations of certain dishes, and a few have expressed concerns about honesty in weighing fish.
"I stopped for no particular reason than I saw the name Murray which is my family’s name so I decided to inquire within. Second thing i saw was Jerk Rabbit which I’ve never seen anywhere in Jamaica. I already knew I was not going to try that. Moving right along I had the taste for Roti which was too oily so I wouldn’t recommend it. Jerk chicken was good. Festival was good my friends tried the Rabbit and said,” it was good and that it tasted like chicken”. The staff is very snobbish so I can’t really give a 5 star on the staff maybe they were all having a bad day. Otherwise, I took some pics which I will post. Beautiful place & delicious food but the staff again like I said earlier subtracted from this beautiful business. Kudos to “ The Murray family”"

"Food is great on the usual days and still good when they have their Chillin on the farm events except the whole roast cow is bland. I went to the event twice. Not a fan of fresh water/farm raised fish but they do it so well there when I tried. Was addicted to their jerked sausage but it’s been awhile. Love their in house pepper sauce. Rabbit was dry though and bland when I tried it few years ago"

"Absolutely amazing!!! Food was superb, service was great and extremely quick!! Location is very convenient. We ordered the Fish Tea, Curry Goat, and Oxtail and everything was delicious. My only recommendation would be to install some more fans to cool the place down. Aside from that I highly recommendation this establishment. I will definitely be returning!!"

Restaurants in Jamaica
The location of this casual restaurant makes it popular for those journeying along the south coast—luckily, the food is good, too. As the name suggests, they serve plenty of fish and jerk dishes with a variety of sides at this open-air spot. On weekends and holidays, it can get crowded, but the music and scenery provide a great vibe.

Most recently, and rather oddly, it’s the Lion Fish that has caught the attention of men trying to improve their prowess. An invasive specie introduced by chance to the Caribbean waters, it has no natural predators (regionally) except humans which makes the fact that it is a voracious breeder and eater – threatening reef life – a point of serious national concern. In an effort to curb its growth rate the government has set up campaigns and competitions for who can shoot the most (its poisonous barbs means it can only be killed by spear-gun), claiming half seriously that eating it fried, steamed or grilled, will, well, make you more of a lion.

Don’t be fooled by the name of this grillhouse—for me, the star dish (the GOAT, if you will) is the curry goat, Jamaica’s favorite stew seasoned with curry powder, turmeric, cumin, and allspice. The bone-in stew is a deep golden brown, a hue that more resembles Japanese curry than Indian. Fresh ginger, Scotch bonnets, thyme, and pimento also go into the cauldron to create a balanced, intensely flavourful (yet not too spicy) dish.
