"We had climbed Mt Fuji today and were looking for some traditional mountain food to finish our day. This was the perfect meal to replenish our energy. Service was really kind and the venue was gorgeous.

ほんとにありがと!"

"Houtou is a local must try dish. There are two restaurants selling the same dish just across the street to each other. We chose this. The restaurant was huge with plenty of tables. We were at the restaurant 10 mins before opening and there was aready a queue forming. We order the Houtou and horse meat sashimi. The food was okay but was great to have on a cold day"

Chris Koh

"Rich veg miso broth. Noodles are perfect texture. The pork is super tender."

Japanese Food Spots in Around Lake Kawaguchi Area (Page 1)| Japan Travel by NAVITIME

Even among the number of “Houtou Fudou” stores which this chain has around Lake Kawaguchi, the Higashi koiji store among others has the most characteristic appearance. There are roughly 300 seats available within the white round building which is similar to a snow dome, so even large numbers of people can feel relieved and use it with confidence. The miso base soup which has been flavored with the savory taste of vegetables and mushrooms has a gentle flavor which goes very well with the homemade noodles.

This does not really offer a houtou alternative and is rather expensive but, it will be cheapher than eating at hotels and the 150 year old building is a nice to see.
