Reviews Summary
Tamura Ginkatsu-tei is celebrated for its unique Tofu Katsu-ni and classic tonkatsu, offering delicious food in a cozy, traditional setting. While many find the wait and price to be worth it, some reviews suggest a decline in quality over the years. The restaurant's popularity means queues are common, but the attentive service and flavorful dishes make it a memorable dining experience for most.
"We originally planned to dine at another nearby restaurant, but it closed early. Luckily, we found Tamura Ginkatsu-tei instead, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice!
Each of us had the pork cutlet set, and we shared the tofu katsuni. Both dishes were absolutely delicious—the pork was crispy and tender, while the tofu katsuni was rich and flavorful. The service was excellent, and the cozy, traditional Japanese ambiance made the experience even better.
We waited about 20 minutes with five groups ahead of us, but it was well worth it. So glad we ended up here—highly recommend for anyone visiting Hakone!"

"Had a lovely meal here today! The price was very reasonable, and everything tasted fresh. I especially loved the fish roe, the smashed potatoes, and the salad—simple but done really well.
I’m not vegan myself, but I noticed there were vegan options on the menu, which shows how thoughtful the owner is. It’s always nice to see that kind of care.
Also, the fried tofu dish was super creative—definitely one of the highlights. Would absolutely come back again!"

"Located near Gora Station, this restaurant might appear unassuming from the outside—almost as if it’s closed at first glance—but don’t let that fool you. Inside, you’ll find a cozy spot with a bilingual menu available in both Japanese and English.
The place is known for its Tofu Tonkatsu filled with minced meat and egg, which was served quickly and piping hot. While the portion looked quite large at first, it turned out to be just the right size, especially when paired with the included miso soup and rice.
The price-to-quality ratio is very fair, and the service was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Despite it being a Monday evening, the restaurant was fairly busy—a clear sign of its popularity.
Both cash and credit card payments are accepted, making things easy for travelers. If you’re spending a night in Gora, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit."
