"This eel restaurant is famous and popular. There is usually a long line and you need to get a number first. You can get a number and visit the temple nearby or you can order a to-go bento to save some time.
We ordered one grilled eel over rice with sauce and another grilled eel without sauce.
Definitely recommend the one with sauce.
The fish skin is crispy and the fish meat is tender. There is just the right amount of sauce. Not too sweet or too greasy."

"Memorable lunch! We were seated in a traditional tatami room! Had the special eel kabayaki that was wonderfully flavored and the eel soup was amazing! The green tea that is included in the menu was very good!
Because the place is in high demand we had to wait 20-30 minutes after we were seated before our lunch arrived! Attentive staff!"

Best things to do in Narita
The longest queues (and the tastiest fish) tend to be at Unagi Kawatoyo and Surugaya Unagi; waits of an hour or more aren’t uncommon at peak times (New Year and whenever a tour bus has been released on the town), and both restaurants tend to close early. A set of unagi served on rice in a lacquerware box doesn’t come cheap (prices hover around ¥3,000 and rise exponentially from there), but it’s certainly worth the splurge.
15 Awesome Things To Do On The Narita Airport Transit & Stay Program
Feast on the centuries-old remedy of curing fatigue – grilled eel (鰻 or うなぎ | unagi). Freshly caught eel is skewered, grilled, and coated in aromatic kabayaki sauce before serving atop fresh rice in a laquered service dish. Surugaya is a top-rated restaurant on Tripadvisor, and waiting times vary, but you’ll be rewarded with one of Japan’s most luxurious dishes!
SIGHTSEEING NEAR NARITA AIRPORT WITH KIDS
I recommend trying Surugaya ( a restaurant that specializes in Eel) with a fantastic view of the Naritasan temple grounds. Surugaya has been open since 1798!!!
