We had the opportunity to try the delicious coffee roasted by Lilo’s during our stay in Bangkok, so we were quite excited to have the opportunity to visit their roastery in downtown Osaka, a small place that teems with people until late into the night. With a long list of home-roasted beans spanning all roasting styles (from super-light and fruity single-origins to dark and chocolaty blends), friendly baristas, and a cozy environment where it’s easy to chat and meet new friends, it’s no wonder that Lilo is so popular. And if you love the roastery, don’t miss Lilo’s second location, Lilo Coffee Kissa, just a few blocks away.

LiLo Coffee Roasters is a small, independent, and locally loved coffee shop, with regular customers coming in to chat with the friendly baristas and sip their coffee on one of the few seats in the shop. As the name suggests, Lilo also roasts its own beans, which you will find being used in various coffee shops around the city. The cafe is tiny—surprise, surprise—with just about five seats inside and two small tables outside.

The best coffee we had in Osaka was at LiLo Coffee Roasters. This tiny storefront had a huge selection (15-20 varieties!) of pour-over coffees including lots of fun and funky natural processed coffees. We tried a fully washed long fermentation geisha from Guatemala with notes of peach, jasmine, and lychee, and a natural Ethiopian with notes of strawberry, cranberry, and orange blossom.

LILO Coffee Roasters is no secret among those in search of the best coffee in Osaka. A small coffee shop that seats no more than six people, it’s located in the Americamura/Shinsaibashi area and is a hot spot for those in the know. The team are knowledgeable and can help you select the best bean for your taste preferences, though due to its location in a busy area, lines can be long.

This shop is also conveniently located just a short walk from Shinsaibashi and Yotsubashi stations. One of the highlights of this place is the wide variety of drip coffee options, making it a delightful challenge to choose which one to enjoy. Due to its location, it attracts many tourists, and it’s not uncommon to see lines forming, especially with visitors from overseas.

LiLo Coffee Roasters might be small in size but it’s packed full of great coffee. You can taste a huge range of 18 single origin coffee beans from East Timor Kenya, Ethiopia and Nicaragua to the Dominican Republic. Staff are keen to share their love of all things coffee with customers, so you’ll often happen upon a cupping or tasting session in progress.

They are strong believers in the bean to cup ideology, creating the best cup of coffee to represent the pure taste of the bean. Coffee aficionados can choose from 20 different types of beans, ranging from sweet and fruity to dark and oily. The friendly owner has a vast knowledge of coffee and is happy to recommend different beans and roasts.

Last, but definitely not least, is the perfect coffee shop for hardcore coffee lovers. This specialty coffee shop located near Amemura in Shinsaibashi offers a wide variety of single origin beans to choose from (18, to be exact). Customers can even choose the preferred extraction method for their cup of coffee.
