"WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT ORDER ANY OF THEIR MEALS WITH SUSHI! We came here due to the raving reviews of the fried chicken and I can attest that their chicken is fried to perfection! 🫶 The zangi chicken, chicken wings and half chicken were absolutely delicious. 😋 The sushi on the other hand was not fresh at all. The uni was bitter in taste and we all got gastro (unfortunately we were best friends with the toilet after our meal). We recommend ONLY the chicken!!

In 1952, Kurishima Torao opened chicken speciality restaurant Wakadori Jidai Naruto. He was from Awaji Island, near Kobe, so he named the restaurant after the swirling current in the Naruto Strait off the coast of his home island. Seventy years on, the fried half-chicken set lunch (¥1,155 / £9) with rice, pickles, tofu and miso soup continues to be loved by the people of Otaru.
