Situated across Otaru Canal lies a small cozy ramen place! Imagine coming from Sapporo without any itinerary and passed by a small food alley where there are small restaurants then drop by at this ramen place coz the opening was 12 p.m. and it was 11:30 a.m. that time 🙈🙈 If you are coming to Otaru, you may want to add this Ramen Place in the bucketlist, it is inside the alley of Otaru Denukikoji. ...

Reviews Summary

Diners rave about Ramen Shodai for its authentic and incredibly flavorful ramen, particularly the limited white soy sauce variety. The tender chashu and rich broths are highlights, all served in a cozy, relaxed atmosphere that feels like a hidden gem. While some mention long waits, the quality and reasonable prices make it a worthwhile experience for ramen enthusiasts seeking a genuine taste of Hokkaido.

"We stumbled upon Shodai Ramen in Otaru and it turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip! If you’re planning to try their white soy soup base ramen, make sure to come early around 11am—it’s popular and sells out fast.

We had the dark soy base ramen and the salt base ramen, and both were absolutely fantastic. The pork was incredibly tender, melting in our mouths with every bite, and the broth was rich and full of flavor. Prices are very reasonable, especially compared to the more touristy spots about 1km away in Otaru.

Do note that they close after lunch and reopen at 4pm, so plan your visit accordingly. If you’re looking for an authentic, satisfying ramen experience away from the crowds, Shodai Ramen is a must-visit!"
