What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Yabuhan Soba is celebrated for its authentic, delicious soba noodles and rich, umami broth. Diners praise the traditional ambiance of the historic merchant house and the friendly, accommodating service. While the unique offerings like sea urchin soba are a highlight, some guests note the soba texture might not appeal to everyone, and visiting during off-peak hours is recommended to avoid waits.
"Very good soba place in Otaru.
The broth specifically was amazing, it os balanced well and has an amazing umami flavor.
The service was really good, and everyone was super nice.
I had the hot soba with the egg and shrimp tempura which was great and pretty affordable (1320¥).
I liked the soba hot water they served in the end, it felt like an accurate, neutral ending for the meal.
The menu is really interesting and they have a great English one, and I enjoyed reading about Soba and discovering more about it.
Really recommended!"

"Wonderful, traditional feeling Soba restaurant. Staggered seating (so as not to overwhelm the kitchen I would assume) but attentive staff made the wait pleasant. Food was excellent and very reasonably priced for the quality."

"We went during off-peak hours and did not have to wait in line.
My parents and I ordered:
Chicken donburi, zen-tori(?), 5-dish soba, udon and hot soba.
Absolutely loved everything.
Interior is very well done.
Soba noodle is not the typical, retail soba you’d find in foreign countries or supermarkets.
Some may not like the texture like my mother, but you can tell that the food is very clean and authentic. Im the one who wants to experience the most authentic food in respective countries so I was very happy with the food.
Try to come during off peak hours to avoid lines."

Set in a historic merchant house, Yabuhan is a vegan-friendly, gluten-free soba noodle restaurant less than a five-minute walk from Otaru Station. They’ve stuck with the same recipe since they opened in 1954, using flour that is 100% buckwheat. The restaurant serves a choice of two noodles; while the 100% Japanese buckwheat is the original, the mix of Japanese and American buckwheat flours is the cheaper option.
