Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Hirase Sake Brewery's incredibly affordable and extensive sake tasting experience, offering a chance to sample nearly 30 varieties for just 500 Yen. Many praise the friendly and knowledgeable hosts who provide English explanations and recommendations, enhancing the learning aspect of the tasting. While the experience is generally positive, some note that the 30-minute time limit might feel short for those wanting a more leisurely exploration.
"Amazing sake tasting experience in Takayama. It is across the street from the local history museum. For only 500円 (in February 2025) you can try around 30 different kinds of sake in 30 minutes. We went just before lunch and it was not busy. The owners kindly provide an English guide with information on the sake's production, how dry/sweet they are, a suggested order in which to try them, etc. Please note you should only pour once per bottle, and only fill your cup about halfway. Many of them are quite strong so I would not recommend coming here on an empty stomach! We walked away with a new appreciation for nihonshu, a sway to our step, and a very affordable ~1500円 bottle of yuzu liqueur."

"First time in Japan and wanted to learn about Sake. Many offer tastings but here you learn a lot about sake. We had a great host who we will call him “50 years”, if you go ask for him. And after two other breweries, they were our favorite!"
Lori Craven
"Great experience tasting many varieties of sake and liqueur for only 500 Yen. The man working at the tasting room was very helpful and told us so much about the sake we were tasting. An amazing experience in Takayama, I would definitely recommend it."
