Andy's Shin Hinomoto

Also known as "Andy's," this izakaya is located directly under the tracks of the Yamanote Line, making the wooden interior shudder each time a train passes overhead. It's a favorite with local and foreign journalists and is actually run by a Brit, Andy, who travels to the seafood market every morning to buy seafood. Don't miss the fresh sashimi and buttered scallops.

The stretch beneath the railway tracks in Yurakucho has a plethora of watering holes to choose from, but Shin-Hinomoto, aka Andy’s, has been one of the favourites for decades now. Its nickname comes from British owner Andy, who took over his parents-in-law’s business together with his Japanese wife, whose family established the izakaya two generations ago.

Under the train track around Ginza, Shimbashi and Yurakucho area is one of the hottest spots to hang out at night in Tokyo and you can find hundreds of small and cozy restaurants and Izakaya packed with business people after the sun goes down as there are many office buuildings around the area. Andy’s Shin Hinomoto (アンディーズ 新日の基) is one of the most popular Izakayas under the track near Yurakucho Station. The Japanese style gastropub is run by a British owner and serves authentic and inexpensive Japanese food including market-fresh seafood with friendly atmosphere.

Having taken over the popular izakaya of his in-laws, owner Andy, along with his wife, has continued the high quality and great atmosphere and added his own touches too. Welcoming foreigners alongside their regulars, the couple have course menus starting from ¥4,500 and individual dishes including fresh sashimi, grilled oysters, tempura and even live squid if you’re feeling adventurous.

Andy’s Shin Hinomoto is a very popular izakaya restaurant to foreign travelers and residents. Located underneath the railway where lots of izakaya and small restaurants are lined, Shin Hinomoto is also called Andy’s, named after the third owner. Andy talks about dishes and menu in Japanese and English, creating friendly and cheerful atmosphere.

Old-school Japanese pub grub all the way – apart from the British owner, that is. Like Gonpachi, Andy’s Shin Hinomoto is one of those places that people say you must visit while in Tokyo. It continues to remain hugely popular with locals, whatever their nationality, in spite of being dangerously overexposed in just about every guidebook.

The Izakaya restaurant of Andy’s Shin Hinomoto offers authentic Japanese dishes along with a fine selection of beer. With a legacy of over seventy years, the pub has a welcoming ambiance and traditional Japanese interior decors. Exotic fish like Barramundi, Black Mutsu, Longtooth Grouper are cooked with unique ingredients.

Located under an elevated rail line, Shin-Hinomoto has a large arched ceiling and a festive atmosphere. It's sometimes referred to simply as "Andy's," thanks to the amiable British-born owner, Andy. The emphasis on the menu here is on seafood and veggies that bought daily at the market.
