The Fukagawa Festival is one of Tokyo’s three great Shinto festivals, but many visitors never make it to the Fukagawa area. This year, I visited Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine during the festival and also stopped at Fukagawa Fudo-do Temple nearby. The atmosphere is very local, and it’s a great way to experience a traditional side of Tokyo that feels far removed from the usual tourist spots. I really en...

I wanted to go somewhere, but Tokyo’s heat lately has been brutal. 🥵 I’m so glad I found the Fukagawa Edo Museum. Walking through the recreated Edo town felt like stepping into another time. I didn’t expect it to lift my mood this much, but it really did. If you ever need a peaceful break without going too far, this place might be it. 🌿 #FukagawaEdoMuseum #LifeInJapan #TokyoSummer #QuietEscape #Mu...

Tokyo’s wildest water festival: Fukagawa Hachiman Matsuri! 💦 Over 30,000 people join in as mikoshi (portable shrines) are splashed with water through the streets of Koto Ward! On Sunday, August 17, the massive portable shrine will be paraded through the neighborhood - departing from Tomioka Hachimangū at 7 a.m. and returning around 5 p.m. Expect splashing, shouting, and serious summer energy💦 One...

Reviews Summary

Fukagawajuku offers a traditional taste of Edo-era cuisine, particularly its signature Fukagawa Meshi, served in a unique setting within Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine. While many praise the rich, historical flavors and the opportunity to experience local culture, some find the portions large and the taste intensely seasoned, with one reviewer noting a lack of clams in their dish.

"Following the "Find my Tokyo" to find this shop."

"(Translated by Google) I visited "Fukagawa-juku" located on the grounds of Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine in Monzennakacho. You can enjoy Fukagawa Meshi here. I received the ``Tatsumi Okonomi'', which is a set of traditional ``bukkake'' and ``takikomi''. I had the impression that the ``bukkake'' had a strong flavor and would be spicy, but when I actually tried it, it wasn't as spicy as I expected and the taste was very good. However, I felt that if I didn't eat quickly, the rice would absorb water and become more and more bulky. I'm sure people in the past had a habit of eating quickly while they were busy. It was a precious moment where I was able to think about the lives of people in the past and feel the atmosphere of Edo. The grilled clams and kuzukiri that came with it were also very delicious.

They have preserved the cuisine of Taito Ward's ancient fishermen to the present day, and it was delicious to eat the food while feeling the history.
I'll definitely visit again.
