Manchinro Honten is a firmly-established presence on Yokohama’s restaurant scene, serving an extensive menu of Cantonese cuisine for more than a century. In addition to being one of Chinatown’s most popular restaurants, Manchinro Honten is also one of the most lavish. After the original 19th century restaurant burned down in 2002, the restaurant was rebuilt to resemble an ‘imperial palace’ furnished with elegant traditional Chinese décor.

Located just a 1-minute walk from Motomachi-Chukagai Station, you'll find the "Chinese Restaurant Jukeihanten Yokohama Chukagai Shinkan'' on the first floor of Rose Hotel Yokohama. This establishment is the third branch, following the main building with its historical presence founded in 1959, and the annex located near the landmark Kanteibyo Temple in Chinatown. With a rich selection of approximately 130 dishes on the extensive menu, it might be hard to decide, but the must-try dish is undoubtedly their signature 'Mapo Tofu.' It offers a complex and delightful blend of spices and flavors.

The oldest restaurant in Yokohama Chinatown, Machinro Honten first opened its doors in 1892 and is continuing a tradition of excellent service and fine Cantonese cuisine. Manchinro Honten is everything you might expect from a Chinatown restaurant: a bright colorful exterior hung with Chinese lanterns is matched by the gorgeous interior furnishings, and the menu features all the classics: Peking duck, dim sum dishes and manju pastries. All the food is cooked using fresh seasonal ingredients with no added chemicals.

I’ve had dim sum in Hong Kong, Taipei, NYC, LA, Seattle, Boston, and Houston, including Hong Kong’s Tim Ho Wan, which boasts a Michelin star. I am very picky when it comes to my dim sum and few places make the cut. But still, I claim that Manchinro Tenshinpo is the BEST dim sum I’ve ever had in the world.

Manchinro has been serving refined Chinese cuisine for 120 years, a testament to the resilience of the Chinese community in Yokohama. The restaurant was destroyed twice. The first time was in the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake and the second time during the air raids of the second World War.
