Reviews Summary
Habibah Sweets is a legendary establishment praised for its superlative Kunafa and authentic Arabic sweets, offering a taste of tradition. While many rave about the mouth-watering flavors and the vibrant downtown atmosphere, some diners have found the cheese layer to be too thick or have experienced less-than-ideal service during peak times. Despite minor critiques, the overwhelming sentiment is that this is a must-visit dessert destination in Amman, with many returning for more.
"Do you know which Habibah is the original and the best? Is this point often disputed (is it? I actually don't know)? I've been told that this is the one, from reputable sources, no less!
Let me tell you about my journey. It was maybe the first or second day of Ramadan. If you're reading this as a non local, non muslim, then you may not know the significance of this detail. During Ramadan, muslims fast throughout the day. Therefore, restaurants are closed when the sun is out. But let me tell you, the experience of being in Amman during Ramadan at night is like a slow moving electron riding through a circuit on its way to powering a blender filled with delicious sweet cheeses and syrupy goodness!
There are two types of knafeh, the soft/smooth variant, and the rough variant. Knafeh Na'ameh and Knafeh Khishneh, respectively. Everyone has their preferences. I've tried both, and I will tell you, the smooth one is absolutely my favorite. If this is your first time, I'd recommend having both so that you can form your own opinion. But, if you can only have one, if you're not a true foodie, then at least try the smooth one. And if you want to fulfill your tiktok insta dreams, go across the street afterwards and get yourself a scoop of Arabic ice cream to go on it. Although, if you ask me, the knafeh is better on its own.
I will be back the next time I'm in town. This is a must try if you are visiting. Do. Not. Miss. It!"

"As someone from both Lebanon and Palestine, I've always been a proud connoisseur of kunafa and I stand by the fact that our versions are the best as i tried the one in turkey and wasn't impressed either! Still, for years, Habiba Sweets in Amman has been on my must-try list. When I found myself in the bustling Wast El Balad (downtown), I knew it was finally time.
Luckily, the queue wasn't too long, and I was immediately struck by the incredibly affordable prices. For a place that's a genuine tourist hot spot, the value is amazing. The staff were super friendly, adding to the warm, inviting atmosphere.
I ordered the smooth kunafah (naa'mi), and while I was excited to finally taste it, I have to admit I was a little disappointed. The cheese was tasty, but the top layer was a bit too thick for my liking, and it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Still, the overall experience was great. Sitting by the shop and soaking in the lively vibe was a treat in itself. Next time, I'll definitely try the other kind or maybe even both!"

"One of the multiple locations of Habibab Sweets. But this one is special, as there are no sitting seats and all the people are sitting outside on the street what gives it a special atmosphere. Loved it a lot, came here twice during my stay in Amman"

Two days in Amman: best of Jordan's capital in 48 hours
Save room for dessert; Habibah is only a stone’s throw away and offers some of the best kunafeh (a Palestinian pastry filled with cheese, soaked in syrup and topped with shredded Turkish kadaif noodles, pistachios and rose or orange blossom water). With your sweet tooth satisfied, continue on to the Roman Theatre, where you can climb to the top and stretch out on the expansive amphitheatre-style seats before setting out for the Citadel. The ancient ruins sit atop Jebel Al Qala’a, affording visitors a history lesson, panoramic views of the city and plenty of Instagram-ops.
The 10 Best Things To Do In Amman, Jordan
You will probably have to join the queue of locals if you want to try what is arguably the best kunafa in town. Since 1947, Habibah Sweets, on Al Hashemi Road, has been producing the cheese pastry drenched in sweet syrup and pistachios, with people still simply unable to get enough of it. Best eaten outside the premises immediately, if the idea of thick, gooey cheese does nothing for you, choose from a wide range of homemade treats including cakes, cookies, ice cream and cheesecakes.

A few steps away from Hashem is the sweet shop Habibah (King Hussein street), another legend worth a stopover or at least a takeout. Jordanians have a very sweet tooth, another reason why I like them so much (!), and this place is their holy temple of sugar, syrup, phyllo dough and pistachio. While it would be tempting to try any of the great looking baklavah displayed on the counter, the main reason people come here is for the knafeh – a traditional Arab cheese pastry soaked in sweet syrup and topped with crushed green pistachios.
Where to Eat and Drink in Amman, Jordan
If you visit Amman without trying knafeh you’d be missing out on one of the most amazing desserts in the world (I might be a bit biased). The best place for me to get knafeh in Amman, albeit a mainstream spot, is Habiba downtown near the famous Hashem Restaurant. The place and the atmosphere around it is magnetising.
