BOUANG Asian Eatery

The decor of this colorful, French-owned restaurant is a throwback to the Asia of 50 years ago, but the constantly changing menu of Asian, Western, and fusion comfort foods is quite modern. The cinnamon pork stew in particular is a crowd favorite with both the Lao and expat clientele and perfectly accompanied by one of Bouang's signature cocktails. Seats on the porch allow for leisurely people-watching.

This attractive eatery on the main drag puts a smile on your face with its colourful chairs, funky light fixtures and mural-covered wall.

A short walk from Lost in Baan, colorful and quirky Bouang (“spoon” in Lao) in upped its post-pandemic game, adding a breakfast menu and unexpected twists to their already fabulous Vietnamese and Lao street food-driven menu. The eatery’s colorful lantern-lit veranda fronts the main drag, where local families, town flaneurs and globetrotters sip kombucha, green juice or the barkeep’s iconic Lady Gin Tonic (spiked with local gin and Lao chillies), doing what one does in Luang Prabang: people watching.

If you havent been there, come and feast on their delicious chicken lemongrass burger, the perfect lao and western fusion. While we were eating we realised how our colourful applique Passa Paa backpack matched with their bursts of colourful decor… we had to share it with you.

It had a cosy interior with exposed brick walls and colorful attributes. There are three vegetarian main dishes on the menu of Bouang: pumpkin and mango fried rice, pumpkin red curry and the gnocchi green curry pictured above. I never had the combination of gnocchi and curry before, but it actually tasted great together.

Saving the best til last, if we could teleport one LP restaurant home, this would be it. This funky spot serves up healthy, fresh vegetarian meals that are yum! We highly recommend the veggie burger and curry. They also have kids utensils and colouring in paper/pencils.

We then had lunch at Bouang which served up the most delicious green curry gnocchi we both ever had, and really good Laos-fusion dishes. We then tried to go to the Royal Palace aka Museum, but was turned away because they close at 3.30pm.

Next on our list was Bouang Asian Eatery which had great reviews and a few veg options on their menu. When we arrived the place was closed. This was common in Laos.

Bouang Asian Eatery has wonderful French-inspired Asian dishes. The veggie burger is to-die for!. And the drinks are fabulous as well.
