What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Kung's Cafe Lao is a beloved hidden gem praised for its exceptionally delicious and authentic Laotian cuisine, particularly its unique fusion dishes like the mango sticky rice pancake and comforting noodle soups. While the food receives rave reviews, some diners have noted that the service can be indifferent at times, though the overall atmosphere and friendly staff often make up for it. It's a highly recommended spot for a taste of local flavors.
"Hidden deep inside an alleyway, a small restaurant with a relaxing ambient. The food here was incredible. The chicken soup with the baguette was extraordinary. The fruit salad with yogurt was extremely delicious. The sticky rice pancake was everything you’d wish for. Went during busy hours so had to wait 40min for the food, so I’d recommend visiting during early or late hours."

"A tucked away cafe recommended to us and we really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. It is an open type of cafe so no air conditioning is available. They have several tables available for dining in. Ordered the Sticky Rice Pancake with Mango & Avocado Smoothie. Both were delicious. Enjoyed our meal here."
Aibi Y.
"A bit of a ‘hole in the wall’ but it comes highly recommended. Down a long alley, it’s a favourite among locals so that’s a good sign. Ordering / interpretation can be a little tricky if the older gentleman is taking your order but all is well.
The Yellow Chicken Noodle Soup was good, as was the omelette and coffee with coconut (cold) and the Lao coffee with milk (hot)."

Vientiane – YummyDelight
My plan for the morning was to do some sightseeing and with the ultimate aim of visiting Kung’s Cafe. The sky turned bright really early in Vientiane this time of the year. By 6am the sun has shone through the gaps of the curtains of my hotel room…Since breakfast was provided for at the hotel, I had a light breakfast before heading out to explore the town.

We made a stop at Kung’s Café Lao for lunch which isn’t along the main road, but down a small alley nestled between two buildings. The hanging gourd inside the café and pot plants give it a nice character, and it did feel like we were eating in someone’s backyard. There are low plastic tables covered with table cloths and stools.
