Reviews Summary
Le Banneton is praised as a charming French bakery offering authentic pastries, hearty sandwiches, and accommodating vegan options. While many highlight the delicious food and warm atmosphere, some note that the coffee is average and Wi-Fi isn't available, and prices can be on the higher side for the region.
"Yes we love your flexibility of "veganising" this beautiful dish! French truly know how to please the heart (and stomach) ☺👍"

"Great spot for a change from the Laotian food and a taste of France! I was skeptical of the prices, particularly for an actual lunch, but it was well worth it! The all-butter croissant was very light, and the roast beef sandwich was exactly what I needed after a tough few days. It was so nice to have real Dijon mustard and the hearty pieces of beef again!"

"Nice French bakery with AC. We came after lunch time and it was very quiet.
We only ordered coffee here and it wasn't anything special. The price of the coffee was reasonable though."

48 hours in Vientiane
Start your day early at Le Banneton, a simple little patisserie that turns out the best croissants and tarts. Then at 8.30am meet Tuk Tuk Safari for one of their memorable tours of the city in a comfy tuk-tuk. The 'Lao for One Day' tour takes you far beyond the obvious as you explore a fresh food market, try a sweet snack known as kao larm (sticky rice and coconut roasted in bamboo), then visit a silversmith’s workshop.
Vientiane – YummyDelight
My final day in Vientiane and we slipped out of our hotel to try Le Banneton, a bakery which is said to serve the Best Croissant in Vientiane. Okay, by now we sort of moderated our expectations of the quality of food in the town. From the exterior, the cafe does have the charm of a french cafe – with a small alfresco area lining the shop front and the white colour timber framed french windows.

The next breakfast was had at Le Banneton Café Bakery, which I remember had a sister site in Luang Prabang. The pastries on offer apart from croissants are other vennoiseries, various danishes and scrolls. There were two types of regular croissants – a version for 8,000 kip and a ‘pure butter’ croissant for 9,000 kip.

Nice toasted baguette sandwiches can be had at Le Banneton (Nokeokumman Rd.; tel. 021/217-321). The Scandinavian Bakery (tel. 021/215-199), off Nam Phu Fountain Circle, has good fresh bread and is always packed with travelers. It's a good place to pick up a foreign newspaper and people-watch on the terrace.

Le Banneton was a favorite on my visit, but it has since been renamed Cafe Vanille. I can only hope that the experience is still as good.
