Tavolina doesn’t try to wow you with solid silver cutlery or chairs made from unicorn hide. It doesn't double up as a hipster cocktail bar, and it doesn't go for any fashion gimmicks. it focuses on providing friendly service and serving up delectable recipes from the old country – and on these counts it can't be faulted.

Tavolina is an unpretentious trattoria, serving traditional Italian food including wood oven pizzas, pasta, risotto as well as poultry, fish and meat dishes. The decor is simple and atmosphere is homey although the lights are too dimmed for my taste. I like the idea of the table in the center, referred to as Dalla, of the restaurant which is used to prepare some of the signature dishes (grating parmigiana, slicing charcuterie etc) which relate to the name of the place.

If you’re a big fan of Italian food [raises both hands], you will find joy at Tavolina. Originally dealing with gluten ingredients, the restaurant offers some GF options, like pasta and pizza (see below). This penne comes with a delicious mix of cream, four cheese blend, and parsley.

Tavolina: this is an Italian restaurant in the hipster Mar Mikhael neighbourhood. It is not a 100% gluten free restaurant. It is a normal pizzeria.

But at Tavolina, I always order their “Bianca Pizza”: cheese, ham, and mushrooms on top of a lush tomato sauce with no garlic after-taste.
