We went to Café-Restaurant Um Dierfgen at 6 Cote d'Eich, 1450 Ville-Haute Luxembourg. If you want local food that is amazing this is the place to go. Not much footage of the restaurant as it was busy. Make sure to book before you go. #chrisbob #luxemborg #orangesuit #food #eatout #placetogo #restutant #eat #dierfgen

Reviews Summary

Café-Restaurant Um Dierfgen is highly praised for its authentic Luxembourgish cuisine, generous portions, and friendly service, offering a true taste of local tradition. While most reviews highlight the delicious food and welcoming ambiance, some diners noted occasional long waits for food and found the pricing to be a bit high for the overall quality and atmosphere.

"Delicious meal and the portion is so large we thought we had family style meals. I had the smokey pork collar and that was big too. I could only finish one piece of pork. The potatoes are so soft and buttery."

"I went there because I heard it was the go-to place for local cuisine. I had a nice lunch…lucky I had a reservation since it seems to fill up quickly.

The waiter and staff seemed nice.

I liked my Judd Mat which is the “national dish” (in photo).

My only regret was that I was only in town for a day and couldn’t try all of the local dishes."

"We originally were not sure about this restaurant due to the lack of information about the menu so I have attached pictures of it. We didn’t book and were offered a seat at the bar or an outside table, we chose outside. Shortly after sitting down, some roadworks started next to the restaurant. While this isn’t the restaurants fault, it made talking very difficult and killed the atmosphere. We waited for our food for at least an hour but shortly after it arrived we got offered a table inside, which was very kind. The food was decent and was a good example of classic French cuisine. It was overpriced for the quality of food and the atmosphere and service, even inside."

Set over two floors and a sunny terrace, with simple décor and wooden tables, this is THE place for a good selection of local dishes, not just dumplings and sausage in mustard sauce, but feierstengszalot or slices of beef with salad and potatoes, roasted ham and tête de veau (calf’s head). They also have popular local dishes including steak tartare, and rabbit in mustard sauce, plus plenty of seafood options. Vegetarians can try the non-meat version of kniddelen.

The Best Restaurants for Luxembourgish Cuisine

The Um Dierfgen restaurant is probably the most well-known address for Luxembourgish specialties in the capital. The menu reads like a best-of of the most popular Luxembourgish specialties, and besides classics like Kniddelen (dumplings) and Wäinzoossis (wine sausage), you can also find rarer delicacies such as calf’s head or Judd mat Gaardebounen (smoked collar of pork with broad beans).

We were admittedly a bit torn on this one, but in the end we decided to include the children's and youth theatre group, founded in 2007, in the ranking. On the one hand, they clearly earned fourth place in the votes, alongside Um Schëff. On the other hand, the group does actually sell Kniddelen, but only on two days a year: during the Fête de la Musique in June at Place Brill in Kayl.

The first (our favorite) is Restaurant Um Dierfgen, which is the closest to the Bierger-Center. We’ve been there several times, and we really enjoyed it each time. Split across two floors, the restaurant has an ambiance that feels like a standard French white tablecloth restaurant-style.
