Reviews Summary

Suffolk House Restaurant offers a dining experience in a stunning historical setting, praised for its elegant ambiance and attentive service, particularly from staff members like Rafiq and Garib. While many rave about the afternoon tea, steak, and overall experience, some find the prices steep for the food quality and have encountered issues with service rushing them or incorrect billing. The restaurant's historical charm and beautiful gardens are consistent highlights, making it a popular spot for celebrations.

"Been back to this place multiple time for celebration as well as just for a night out dinner.
Our latest visit for valentine day dinner was one of the best. We were serve by Garib, he was attentive & polite making the evening all the more pleasant.
The steak here is one of the best found in Penang, I can't recommend it enough."

Kemp Ooi

"The food served is unique and presentation is nicely done. Service throughout the dinner service by Rafiq is 5 star. He made us felt welcome and comfortable for the entire dining experience.

Would highly recommend to come if you are looking to treat yourself to something nice."

Joe Samlee

"RM70 for fish & chips and mushroom soup? Honestly not worth it at all.
The fish & chips were the worst I’ve had, its mushy, not fresh, tiny portion and the sides were underwhelming. The brulee was bland too, I could easily make a better version at home.

The crew’s service was rather unpleasant. Just a few minutes after I finished my meal, they came over asking to clear the plate/table, which felt like they were rushing me out of the restaurant.

On top of that, the restaurant is hot, I mean hot temperature. Parking has no cover and security.
Reservation? I don't really think so, it is empty inside.

For the high prices, the food quality is closer to roadside/hawker level. In fact, hawkers do it much better at a fraction of the price. Definitely not a place I’d recommend."

25 Best Things to Do in Penang (Malaysia)

Suffolk House offers a glimpse of traditional British colonial architecture in Penang and sits in the scenic part of the island known, rather alarmingly, as Air Itam or Black Water. The house would have been the former home of Sir Francis Light who is remembered as the official founder of Penang although it fell into disrepair following his death and was closed to the public. It reopened in 2007 having been lovingly restored over 3 years and now you can take a guided tour that will fill you in on all the history of this spectacular building.

Sitting elegantly along Jalan Air Itam is Malaysia’s one and only surviving Georgian Mansion, built in the early 1800s and once home to series of British governors. Be sold the moment you step in - admire the lush garden before walking on polished marble and terracotta floors inside, while clapping your eyes on original doors, windows and ‘Before and After’ framed photos that send you back in time. It's hard to believe that the furniture is not from the original days as its sourced from antique shops to be on par with the overall theme.
