Reviews Summary

Sin Kee Bah Kut Teh is celebrated for its authentic Sabah-style herbal broth and flavorful dry version, with many praising the generous portions and quick service. While some diners find the herbal broth different from Singaporean or Klang styles, the overall consensus points to a satisfying and unique Malaysian dining experience. The coconut pudding is also a highly recommended sweet finish.

"If you're in Kota Kinabalu and craving a heartwarming, herbal-rich broth, Sin Kee Bah Kut Teh is a must-visit. Known for their flavorful and aromatic bowls of Bah Kut Teh, this spot delivers a truly satisfying experience.

We tried their best-selling Claypot Bah Kut Teh, and it did not disappoint. The broth was packed with deep, herbal flavors—rich yet not overpowering. The pork was tender, absorbing the essence of the slow-cooked broth, while the mushrooms and tofu soaked up every bit of that comforting umami goodness.

For a more intense, savory bite, the Dry Bah Kut Teh was an absolute delight. Stir-fried with dark soy sauce, dried chilies, and a mix of spices, the pork had a bold, caramelized flavor with a slightly smoky touch. It was perfect with a bowl of white rice, letting the sauce cling to every bite.

To balance out the richness, we ordered a side of Choy Sum, which was fresh and lightly seasoned, adding a refreshing contrast to the meal.

With generous portions, a well-balanced blend of herbs and spices, and a cozy, no-frills ambiance, Sin Kee Bah Kut Teh is a great spot for anyone looking to enjoy an authentic and comforting Malaysian dining experience. Definitely a place worth revisiting!"

"Food is good and enjoyable, but nothing out of this world. You won't go away disappointed. I've had a number of dishes there and each one was enjoyable.

The service is prompt and courteous, and the atmosphere is bustling with lots of people eating.

There is nothing fancy about this place. Decor and dining experience are simple."

"Sin Kee Bah Kut Teh Restaurant was recommended by a colleague as a well-known local spot, especially popular with those who enjoy soup — whether when feeling under the weather or after a night out.

Two of my colleagues really enjoyed their meal, but sadly, it just wasn’t to my taste. I wish I could say the same, but this is my personal review."

If you are a fan of Bah Kut Teh, then you should visit this famous butcher tea shop in the Gaya Street. Infused with different Chinese herbs and spices for hours, the aroma and taste of the broth is decently unique and rich, together with the tender and flavoursome pork stews, lean meat, pork ribs, and pork balls, you might want to order extra rice to pair with it!. Sabah, Malaysia: Two Days (of Food and Sights) in Kota Kinabalu

Final meal in the city, and I couldn’t miss the Bak Kut Teh restaurant just beside my hotel!. Sin Kee Bak Kut Teh was always filled with people every time I passed by, and it was no different that day; but I was lucky to get a seat without waiting too long. The Bak Kut Teh was pretty decent — the herbal broth was not too thick, and the pork parts were soft and tender.

Sabah Eat: Sin Kee Bak Kut Teh (新记肉骨茶) @ Kota Kinabalu

Sin Kee’s signature claypot bak kut teh is served with both pork ribs and belly meat in herbal soup, but I opted for pork ribs only with rice. The use of claypot enhanced the aroma of the pork ribs soup, which has a heavier herbal presence that is more prominent than the garlic-peppery Singapore Teochew-style but not as strong as the dark-herbal Hokkien-style.
