沙巴亞庇市的美食大多聚集在加雅街 (Gaya Street) ，小小的街道三步一小吃、五步一餐廳的全都是名店來著，但有個特點就是幾間有名的餐廳大都設有分店，分店都選在加雅街 (Gaya Street)開設，唯獨怡豐茶室 (Yee Fung)沙巴僅此一間無分號，至今已有三十年歷史，生意是越來越好. Yee Fung Ngiu Chap (Mixed Beef Noodle) RM8.50 – Beef broth serves with flat noodle, beef slice, beef tripe, beef stomach, beef tendon and etc. The broth was smooth and crystal clear, have a strong beefy taste in it which feels exactly like having authentic soup tulang (Indonesian beef bone soup), except that we have free noodles selection and extra beef toppings for this one. The restaurant is renowned for three dishes: Yee Fung Laksa (怡丰叻沙), Yee Fung Ngau Chap (怡丰牛杂) and Claypot Chicken Rice (沙煲鸡饭).

Strolling around the night market made us really hungry so we decided to stop at Yee Fung Restaurant to try some of their laksa and beef noodles soup. Laksa is part of the Peranakan cuisine and what makes it stand out among other South East Asian dishes is its spicy curry coconut milk. However, the laksa here is not that spicy; and although it carries a slightly different taste and consistency from similar typical Singaporean dishes, the beef noodle soup grows on you.

What’s not to love about a spicy South East Asian dish made with fresh meat, herbs and coconut milk. This Sabah favourite located on Gaya Street still pulls in both locals and internationals alike. For us, this creamy, spicy, earthy, and citrus-sy curry dish (if you squish the key lime juice in) is pretty tasty that is if you are seeking a heavy dish, but then again West Malaysia has an array of good curry laksa noodles to choose from.

For those craving a piping, hot bowl of curry laksa, Yee Fung Laksa will have you slurping with satisfaction. Their seafood curry laksa (RM15) is served with fresh, big prawns and shredded chicken accompanied with a flavourful, moderately spicy broth. The secret behind their delish soup comprises around 20 ingredients including red chilli, onion, ginger, and cinnamon, with the rest remaining a classified family recipe.

This is a curry noodle soup that has many variations across southeast Asia, but the one found in Sabah relies heavily on coconut milk to form its broth, with chicken, tofu, and prawn comprising the toppings. The first laksa we tried was at the perpetually popular Kedai Yobi Yee Fung, just off Kota Kinabalu’s famous Gaya Street, home of the Sunday market.

I’d label Yee Fung the most iconic restaurant in all of Kota Kinabalu. This eatery has been operating for a whopping 40 years, and is one of the most popular places to eat in the city. Yes, this lime-green restaurant is stuffed full of locals from dusk until dawn, and if you happen to visit at peak time, you’ll know you’re in the right place from the queue streaming out of the entrance.

The Laksa Yee Fung is a special menu you must taste once in Yee Fung Laksa Restaurant. Aside from the speciality dishes, you can try their Ngiu Chap, Fishball Noodle, and Claypot Chicken Rice, which will give you the maximum satisfaction of dining in this restaurant. Instead of 5-star cuisine at 5-star prices, we invite you to try some low-budget street food. You’ll be sitting on plastic chairs with no air conditioning, but the Kedai Kopi Yee Fung Laksa might just hit the spot. It has 630 excellent reviews on TripAdvisor for a reason.

Yee Fung Kopitiam is another great place for breakfast – it’s a bit further – about 12-15 minutes walk but it’s worth the trip!. They serve delicious laksa (different to the Malacca laksa at Centre Point) and Claypot Chicken rice. Located along the famous Gaya Street.

Laksa is a spicy soup served with tender chicken, chicken broth, noodles and beans. In some places, this dish is prepared in coconut curry which adds some sweetness to its spicy taste. Its origins can be traced back to the early Chinese tribe of Peranakan people.

What can be better to have a thick, creamy, mild spicy curry-laksa noodle early in the morning?. Squeeze some fresh lime juice to enhance the taste!. It comes with a small plate of sambal belacan (shrimp paste) to complete the perfect breakfast.
