Reviews Summary
This family-run stall is celebrated for its authentic and delicious Putu Piring, featuring a perfect blend of soft rice flour, rich gula Melaka, and fresh coconut. While many rave about the taste and the delightful experience of watching it being made, some find the queues long and the taste a bit too sweet or ordinary.
"Arrived just after opening at 1300hr
Bought 6pc/medium ($1.60/pcs)
Very soft outer layer that melts in your mouth. Filling not too sweet. Good size too. Overall, very tasty!
(Would have preferred more shredded coconut)"

"The best putu piring in Melaka town! Putu Piring is a steam rice kuih fills with Gula Melaka and shredded coconut to add the balance of sweetness and saltiness. So that it doesn’t taste very sweet. This is delicious!!
The best way to enjoy the Putu Piring is to eat it while it’s fresh and hot. However, it is still safe to eat within 4 hours of purchase. For those who insist on keeping their Putu Piring in their chiller. And preheat about 5 minutes via steaming. But it won’t be good as freshly made.
Open everyday except Sunday from 1pm to 4pm only. Closed on Sundays. No pre-order. First come first basic and prepare CASH only. If you don’t want to queue long, then come early as 1pm ☺️"

"Opens at 1 PM (closed on Sundays). I came right at opening and still had to queue a bit, depends on how fast the staff prepare the orders.
Taste was decent, though on the sweeter side. The gula melaka filling is quite generous, which sweet-tooth fans might enjoy. The shredded coconut gives a nice salty touch, but for me personally the sweetness was a bit too much.
No dedicated parking, so need to park by the roadside. Overall, worth trying at least once if you’re in the area."

If you happen to drop by Malacca and are already sick of the many touristy foods that require lining up under the hot sun, this Putu Piring Melaka stall at Jalan Tengkera could provide a more pleasant experience. The family-run stall along Jalan Tengkera serves fast and cheap snacks and desserts. Try its signature putu piring (steamed rice flour bun with palm sugar filling), which is best while it’s still warm and puffy. Long lines of sweet-toothed Malaccans form outside from the moment it opens until closing time, but it’s worth the wait in our opinion.

The Gula Melaka Trail…
Keeping with the theme, I also tried something called putu piring (along the main Jonker street next to Madam Yap). Basically a rice cake (the sponge-like, fluffy kind, not the chewy, glutinous type), this little dessert is steamed on a plate-shaped mould and filled with Gula Melaka before finishing off with some fresh, grated coconut. Although I would have preferred more Gula Melaka in it, this was, as a whole, yet another interesting way to use the palm sugar.
