What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Kueh Cafe is a popular spot for its extensive variety of traditional Malay kuih and some local dishes like Nasi Lemak. Diners often praise the cozy ambiance and the vast selection of sweet and savory treats. However, some reviews mention issues with food quality, portion sizes relative to price, and an unpleasant smoking situation near the entrance.
"The cafe ambiance is good with Malay coffee shop vibes. A lot of local kueh is available here. The dishes are well presented & good taste. Quite busy during breakfast hour. Large dining area. I'm quite regular at their branch at SS18 Subang Jaya, all I can say is good job to them because they are able to keep the quality at the same level at both cafes."

"KUEH in Seksyen 13 has a mixed reputation with some positives but also several notable downsides. Here's a breakdown:
Positives:
1. Variety of Kuih: One of the highlights at KUEH is the extensive selection of traditional kuih, making it a great spot for those who enjoy variety.
2. Great Service: The staff is friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall experience for guests.
3. Clean Environment: The restaurant maintains a clean and welcoming atmosphere, which is always appreciated.
Negatives:
1. Smoking Issue: A serious concern is the presence of customers and staff smoking at the outside tables right in front of the entrance. This is not only unpleasant but also poses health risks, especially to families with young children. It's something the management and authorities should address.
2. Value for Money: The prices don't quite match the portions or taste. Considering the cost, customers may find it lacking in terms of value.
3. Authenticity of Malay Breakfast: If you're seeking an authentic Malay breakfast experience, this may not be the right place, as some items don’t meet expectations.
4. Coffee Quality: Unfortunately, the Caramel Frappe falls short—it tastes more like a simple pasar malam coffee. If you’re a coffee lover, you might want to look elsewhere for better quality.
5. Branding vs. Quality: Although KUEH has a well-thought-out brand, the quality of the food and drink doesn't always live up to its image.
Overall: While KUEH offers a nice selection of kuih and has great service, the experience could be improved with stricter smoking policies, better food quality, and a more authentic approach to Malay cuisine."

"22.05.2025 Thursday 830am. My first time in this branch. I visited Subang Jaya branch before. Today I had the nasi lemak with ayam Masak Merah. While the rice came to us hot and quite fragrant with coconut, the sambal was more sweet than spicy. The chicken was tender and tasted nice. This plate cost RM12.90. Cucur Udang took more time to be ready. I have to ask for it. Cucur Udang was chopped into small bits and frankly there weren't many prawns on it. Kuah Kacang was watery and lacked peanut taste. So the cucur Udang was chopped up like that, I wondered how many actual pieces of cucur Udang were given with the price of RM9.50? Okay. About their staff. Payment at the cashier was served by this girl that has no expression whatsoever. No greetings no thank you, nothing. So the total bill was RM22.40 + 6% SST + rounding up = RM23.75."

When in Singapore: Must-try Desserts
The sheer variety of colourful kuehs in Singapore is always a sight to behold, as pleasing to the eye as to the palate. Both Nyonya and Malay varieties of the local kuehs are closely related and hark back to their common Malay or Thai origins: the tapioca-flavoured kueh bengka, the delicately-layered kueh lapis, and the deliciously rich, dual-layered kueh salat, with its glutinous rice base topped with a pandan-scented egg custard.
