If you’re more a daytime drinker than a night owl, go for tipples at La Buena Vida in Akumal, one of Riviera Maya’s paradisiacal and laidback beach towns. Life moves at a languid pace in Akumal and is centered around nature encounters like swimming with turtles and visiting rescued monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, and ostriches at the Akumal Animal Sanctuary. La Buena Vida is a quirky and cool venue to hang loose after the day’s adventures.

With driftwood tables overlooking Half Moon Bay, swings at the lively bar, and salsa music keeping things moving, this might be the perfect beach restaurant. The usual Mexican fare—quesadillas, empanadas, burritos, and fish tacos with handmade tortillas—is perfectly fine, but the food isn't the point. It's all about the location.

Our favorite place to eat in the area is the Buena Vida, right on the beach on south end of Half Moon Bay. You can eat outdoors under a palapa, sit on a swing at the bar, or dine upstairs in the dining room. The Turtle Bay Bakery is a fun place for breakfast.

Akumal is a small resort town situated between Playa del Carmen and Cancun; it's perfect for those wanting to kick back in a fun setting that’s less of a non-stop party scene than its more high-profile neighbors. Many visitors come to see the turtles for which the area is famous (Akumal means “place of the turtles” in Maya), and the eco-friendly theme is carried through at many of the town’s hotels and restaurants, including the popular La Buena Vida, on Half Moon Bay. If you feel like having it easy for a minute and trying some delicious food, there is no better place in Akumal than La Buena Vida. Inspired by the traditional Día de Muertos, the restaurant serves excellent seafood and a range of other dishes like burgers, pasta, and delicacies from their grill. La Buena Vida is located right by the ocean at the southern end of the lagoon, about 1 km away from Akumal’s center.

We haven't patronized this establishment since the owner (Vista del Mar Properties, d.b.a. Akumal Dive Adventures) brought boats and buoys onto the previously boat-free zone of Half Moon Bay. For those who are interested, you can read all about it here. At last visit, the menu too closely resembled Lol-Ha's and the prices were climbing beyond the quality of the food.

Located in the bay of Half Moon in Akumal, La Buena Vida offers a very festive atmosphere with good music, set with an incredible panoramic view of the sea. Their dishes are served on the beach under shaded palapas with a casual atmosphere and a menu ranging from fresh ceviche to the traditional burgers. The menu at the bar includes a wide selection of tequilas.

We didn't make it to La Lunita this time but ate at Que Onda (good), La Buena Vida (t-shirts were better than the food), Cueva del Pescador (ask for Carlos) and Turtle Bay Cafe (wifi!!!!) many times - also had the best coconut ice cream next door to Lol Ha!!. For sweet bread, try the bakery/pizza shop in the pueblo (next to the pharmacy) - yum!

Although the beach is a bit rocky, the scenery is spectacular. Bring your snorkel gear and check out the underwater world teeming with marine life.

We ate 3 times away from the house (Taverna Akumal once and La Buena Vida twice) and would highly recommend both locations. We would also highly recommend asking Mirna to cook a meal at least once. She cooked 2 nights for us…chicken and pork pibil one night and Chile rellenos the other night.

Although it’s a little further from the center of activity, La Buena Vida might be the most popular beach club in the area. It sits to the north, along Half Moon Bay. It has a festive atmosphere with live music and even a couple crow’s nests that have great views from higher up.

Unless you have a kitchen and plan on making your own breakfast, head to the Turtle Bay Cafe, Lucy's Kitchen or La Buena Vida. La Buena Vida now serves breakfast from 8-11am daily. Here you'll find the traditional breakfast options, but with excellent views of the ocean.

La Buena Vida restaurant was the perfect spot for us to relax after a long day touring around. The food was delicious and the atmosphere very fun and relaxed. We noticed lots of families hanging out and the boys were excited to have their sand toys with them.

On the farther end of town, you’ve got to pay a visit to La Buena Vida. It’s a restaurant and bar with sandy floors and swing seats right on the beach. Between the fun drinks, bar swings, great food, and seaside views, you’ll never want to leave.

There are plenty of places in the area, but my pick is La Buena Vida, a great place to get some grub after a long snorkeling session. It has great Google reviews and is just 1.1 km (a 13 minute walk) from Akumal beach on Half Moon Bay.

Tulum is not without delicious vegan and vegetarian options both in town and down on the beach. There are many amazing places to choose from such as Restaurare, Co.Conamor, Raw Raw Love and La Hoja.

This spot is directly on the water and every table is in the sand. La Buena Vida has hammocks and even a tree house!. The restaurant also features a pool and local boutiques, and we loved it.

Sit down to eat in one of the tasty restaurants such as Lol-Ha, La Buena Vida, La Cueva del Pescador or Lonchería Akumalito to try the best seafood in the area.

La Buena Vida stands out with stunning views and a diverse seafood and vegetarian menu. All of this is further offered in a chill, family-friendly atmosphere.
