What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners rave about the authentic Yucatecan flavors and the welcoming, local atmosphere at El Pocito, often highlighting it as a hidden gem away from tourist traps. While many praise the delicious and varied menu, some found certain dishes lacked strong flavors, and one reviewer had a negative experience with service and food quality. Overall, it's recommended for those seeking genuine regional cuisine at affordable prices.
"Absolutely some of the best local food with the local “Sazon” and not overpriced like the hotel zone."

"Not worth the visit—close or not
This spot came recommended by locals as a place to try authentic, homemade food using local ingredients. Unfortunately, the experience fell flat from start to finish.
Service was disengaged—no welcome, no recommendations, and no confirmation of our order. It felt like we were just supposed to know what to do. A simple order-at-the-counter system would’ve worked better.
The food didn’t redeem the experience. I ordered the Cochinita, which came with tortillas and refried beans—the beans were runny and lacked any real flavor. The chicken version came with a side of thick spaghetti, which felt totally out of place and didn’t pair well. The Sopa de Lima tasted like hot water with lemon—completely bland.
And one small but important note: if you do get hot food, eat it fast—the fans around the seating area cool it down quickly, which doesn’t help when the food’s already lukewarm or lacking in flavor.
Despite the high number of reviews, it seems more geared toward locals who may have a nostalgic connection to the style of cooking. For visitors, it’s simply not worth the effort. The surrounding neighborhood feels a bit sketchy, and the overall experience just didn’t justify the trip.
Whether you’re nearby or thinking about going out of your way—don’t. Not worth the visit, close or not."

We asked our driver if he knew where “El Posito” was and he didn’t. So he asked a few other drivers and kept going until he found it. 30 minutes in a cab through backstreets and neighborhoods – and we paid less than $8 USD. The same ride in New York City, by comparison, would’ve been closer to $30.
