Mariscos Ponte Trucha Negro

Since 2009, Ponte Trucha Negro has been delivering an excellent gastronomic experience in the traditional working-class barrio of Santa Tere. The first thing you’ll notice about the restaurant is its vibrant feel. Like the surrounding neighborhood, the atmosphere is eclectic and chaotic.

For a late seafood lunch on the weekend, this massive open dining room is a hub of energy, and a watering hole for locals in search of “the hair of the dog.” Families wait on line outside, patient, knowing once they install themselves at a table, they can stay there all day. The walls are covered in personal photos of the eponymous owner, Negro, a record of a life of hard work and good food. Micheladas are served in terracotta mugs, and the raw tuna tostada is a must.

More recently opened is La Panga del Impostor, an uber-hip seafood joint with a young and more single crowd than Ponte, in one of the old mid-century homes in Colonia Americana. The absolute best meal I have had in Guadalajara was Tikuun Comedor Local, newer to the Guadalajara dining scene and serving some of the city’s most inventive dishes – like scallops with peppermint, chile de arbol, pea microgreens, and glasswort – in a mellow, casual setting.

Ponte Trucha Negro is an essential stop for seafood lovers visiting Guadalajara. Located in the Santa Teresita neighborhood, you’ll likely see the line at the door before you see the sign on the building (even at our late lunch hour of 4 p.m., there was a long wait). The menu is definitely a bit overwhelming, but at least you’ll get a chuckle from the names of some of the offerings.

Ponte Trucha Negro: I love this big, open family-style seafood place. It’s been around a long time in Guadalajara and is obviously a local favorite. I tried the shrimp aguachile with cucumber, onion, and hot peppers and loved it, almost as much as the Taco chupe zarandeado with grilled shrimp in the creamy house sauce.

Ponte Trucha Negro is another classic Guadalajara restaurant serving a unique style of local seafood. Just be aware that the seafood pozone doesn’t actually have any corn in it. I had heard about the seafood pozole at Ponte Trucha Negro but didn’t know that is wasn’t actually pozole but a warm seafood cocktail.

Ponte Trucha Negro is a casual, family-friendly restaurant where welcoming staff speedily serve delicious, well-priced seafood platters and fish specialties. The extensive menu can be overwhelming, so take your time deciding what to order. The octopus, monkfish and shrimp are great options.

If you’re in the mood for seafood, then this is the place to go. According to one local, Ponte Trucha Negro is THE place for seafood in Guadalajara. Luckily for us, we stayed at an AirBnB a block away from this restaurant so we found ourselves here more than once during our trip.

De los peores mariscos que he comido en mi vida, vi sus publicaciones en Maps y me deje llevar, pero parece que te revuelven marisco fresco con alguno congelando de ventas anteriores, no vuelvo a ir.

Uno de los lugares más clásicos de Guadalajara anteriormente llamado Mariscos El Negro y en el cual no debes de dejar de probar la Torta Ahogada de Camarón el sabor de la salsa es único.
